    Question Tell me about HIVES!

DD1 got out of the bath tonight and had what i think were hives. she had patches of red skin covered with small white bump-around 2mm or so, some smaller. they were on the backs of her forearms, inner thighs, bottom, one on her ankle, one on her head.
shes eating nothing new today, the did play outside this morning so i assume had they been bites they would have come up at lot earlier, they were also itchy. she has had a cold/cough for a week or so if that helps. they had started to go down around 30 mins later and were itchy.

DD1 gets hives and hers are allergy based (some fruits set her off). but the GP did mention that it can also be related to a virus...like the body's way of purging the toxins etc. so can come up after an illness. they tend to come and go for a few weeks and can come up and last a couple of hours before going back down again. we used calamine for the itching and when it gets really bad we have the antihistamine (but again DDs is an allergy related one so might not be the same in terms of relief...). HTH!

My DD has just had hives too - she had a cold / sore throat and was really sleep deprived, and one afternoon just broke out in huge red spots, EVERYWHERE! She is three and this is the first time she has had anything like it. They were round and patchy, some looked like a red ring. They were itchy too. The Dr said they were hives and gave us zyrtec for her to take, which stopped the itching. They lasted for 3 days, and turned a purplish colour where she had scratched too much - it looked like she was bruised all over, poor little chicken. And then one day they just vanished! I hope they don't come back.... Dr said it is a reaction to a viral infection, almost like your body is allergic to having that virus.

Both babe. Sometimes depending on the exposure or how sick I am I get both.

Olive, My DD had this recently too. The small bumps and all over her torso. Scared the crap out of me but Dr Google images explained that it was hives LOL I thought back over her food and the only new thing was strawberries. I stopped giving them to her and they slowly went away, but she still has some so now I think she may be allergic to something different or as well as strawberries. I am going to give her them again in a few weeks and see if there is a reaction.

Hope it settles down for your little one.

I get big bumpy hives and have a few allergies, so it does not surprise me if poor DD has my health problems.
