Question Should you size up or down for shorties/longies?

    Hey guys

As far as sizing for shorties/longies go, is sizing up or down the way to go? If you size them up will they possibly be too gapey then and they leak? Or sizing down, would that possibly stretch the wool out too much and then they won't be as effective?

I'm having a tricky time sizing DD up with her measurements

    Thanks!

Both my longies and shorties are a little bit too big for DS, but they work fine, as they have a drawstring around the waist so I can make it tight on him for sleeping.

I think its better to size up so you can get more use out of them, since they are expensive and kids grow so fast!!

    Size up defently babe.

If you size down then you hav eto worry about the rise not being high enough and nappy gapping but if you size up then you can always put in a draw string for the waist (he have sized up on all of them)

**** when did you become almost half way pg woman!!!!!

Sizing up is much better than sizing down because as you said if it's stretched too tightly then the stitches will be forced open and you will get leaking through them.

I have a pair that were massive on Caleb when they were given to us and they still worked fine.

    Definately size up.

The waist being too big - doesn't matter - you will draw in the drawstring to your child's waist - no problem.

The legs being too long - all the better - hem them up, you'll get an extra season out of them that way.

Hips too big - no worries - for some bizarre reason, wool is the opposite of PUL and fleece (where fit is so important). Wool being loose doesnt seem to change the waterproofness. As long as you lanolise, it's fine.

To my amazement, even SOAKERS (cover shaped) that were too big in the legs, yes gapey, STILL stayed dry overnight. But i still prefer the soakers with long leg cuffs, or better still shorties or longies.

You usually need a bigger size wooly for NIGHT nappies, as night nappies are bulkier, and hence have a longer rise. So anything you put OVER the night nappies, will need a longer rise and then some. So for many reasons, BIG IS GOOD. LOL.

DId i forget to mention too long longies at night keep your bub's toes toasty in winter too - chuckles.))
