LOL Maz.... i will swap you... a pain in the rear 9yr old girl and a reasonably good/quite 7yr old boy who WILL eat you out of house & home....
Yay, spanks Nelle!! Almost killing and actually killing are two completely different things lol, and yes preggers brain would have accounted for it!
Not even slightly tempted by the ittis.... combination of being po-or & also wanting some different colours.
Gigi, lol, I would never have thought of knitting a bib either tbh, but I found a 'beginner pattern' and just had to! It works well too would you believe! *hugs* for having to put up with people & their negative remarks about Bilby being bf. I could tell you what to say to them but it'd all be blanked out lol. Are you coming to the september meet?! (...not the 6th...)
WOPB: Purty blue bumwear.

ok bbl Mj is spinning herself in cirles on the floor, so funny
I use soap nuts sometimes! Haven't for awhile because I can't get to them (shakes fist at Rans for storing random crap in the laundry). I can see why people wash just in water, our washing machines are heaps better these days, and I reckon water and agitation are enough probably. They're definitely fine for clothes. For nappies...mostly good, depending on where your baby's at. I would alternate between the nuts and detergent for mine, because teething sometimes needs that extra something to get rid of smell.
They're good value as opposed to detergent though I think...they last a long time. (Just do the bag up tight, I double knot, cos you don't want soap nut through your clothes!)
I think I got my sample from The Wee Wuns, and you know, to justify the postage I got some other stuff at the same time, some Envirosax (love mine), and...can't remember what else.
Ohhh Mel, that sounds like a MESS! I'm not sure we've ever had a blocked toilet, doesn't sound fun.
Rans had Riv in one of my bikini tops over his jumper during dinner tonight. They crack me up.
Maz, I will take your 8 year old and 6 year old, if you will take my almost 2 year old and almost 5 month old. GLAD they're in bed today! :D
Just wondering if you girls could tell me if i would need night nappies for a newborn or would a normal one do until later on?
i would say not for a newborn as you will be feeding and changing so much more often
It think that once they start to sleep over night that is when the night nappy is needed (ie 10 hours).
Otherwise i am sure a BBB or boosted nappy will be fine!
WOHB - Boosted BBB + PP's Shorties
Sorry what's BBB WOHB and PP?
lol thanks FJ ! :)
Has anyone ever tried the Baby E Wool Nappy Cover
Baby eco store (where i am stalking soap nuts lol).. have them 1/2 price for $15...
KAZBAH = where did you go on holiday? tell me! i need to vicariously pretend i went on a holiday. (it's been a long time between drinks lemme tell you).
COOKIE MONSTER - congrats on your six months goal!
LARANNA - many people change teh bub once they are wet or have done a poo, more like two hours than four. To me, four hours is more like when you are out and it's hard to find a place to change bubs, or you have "one of THOSE days". More freq changes also help with nappy rash issues. Sposies need less freq changing than MCN, cos of those blue crystals inside them (read the info page on the nurture nappies website to discover all about those crystals).
PINK - i feel like i could just BLINK, and your next post would say "look at the new woollie i just knitted!", you are a star knitter in my book! What does it cost to try the trial pack of soap nuts? $21 is a bit steep (in case they don't rock your world). I have heard of people washign their MCN in bicarb soda and water.
MELBEL - oh no! what a horrible pootasohpre - see, its so horrible i can't even spell it!!
whoever told me about the salt, thank ye thank ye, will go buy more salt and try that quick smart - so i need to SOAK the stuff already dyed in salt and COLD or HOT water in the laundry tub (or bucket)?
WOTBB: wot evah night nappy dh put on bilbs, actually, i think i left out the Sugarpeas combo for him to put on her after the bath, complete with the cutest little babylegwarmers. SHe's got this hacking dry cough, so waking up frequently. Apparently you can't medicate a dry cough until they're over two years old (??).
ANTHEIA - welcome. i think it depends how much your newborn sleeps. If they are awake and being changed two hourly (like mine was!), then normal nappies/prefolds were fine. If you are lucky to have a long sleeper, i would suggest absorbent day nappies (for older bubs) like
- cute tooshies bamboo delights fitted nappy (from 4kg onwards)
- itti bitti boo fitted nappies
- there are some nb sized bamboo nappies like on FIONA JILL at wahmnaps, and the LUSHIES at sustainablehempproducts.
with a newborn sized staccinator deluxe cover (the normal is for day, the deluxe is for night).
GUDISM - grrr to feeling sick, it's crappola. Hugs to you.
thanks for everyone putting me straight on the 13th - thank ye linewomen, ballgirls, EVERYONE LOL.
OMG MEL  just too funny!!! you house should sme lllovely of bleach!!!
Well it has only taken me three days to get through all the posts and then just when I was nearly at the last page.... I couldn't get BB to load! So I can't remeber much of what I have read hehe
Gigi - let me know if you find any funky trainers! We use the bumwear nappy pants which a re great and very functional but it would be nice to have some funky ones
Sounds like there will be a few of us out on the lawn TT this summer. I am waiting for another couple of weeks when the weather is back to hot for us to start seriously thinking about it. Ari occassionally tells us she needs potty but most days she isn't communicating or I'm not listening properly :-) DS TT in about 2 wks at 18mth but it was mch easier when out as we could utilise a well placed tree, what do you do with girls???? travel with a potty? Not really sure, I'm ready for TT yet - what will I do with all my luvly nappies!!!
PP - I think Sam said she was going to get some soap nuts in, I could bring you a sample when I come down to Brissie - If you can wait that long :-)
Sarah H - I know this is from ages ago but I noticed you said a lot of the nappies don't come with inserts, quite a few of the big brands do like the Bum G and Haute and I'm pretty sure Sam who is at The nappy Bucket now still does all the pocket nappies with inserts included in the price
Antheia - we used just a baby K with hemp or Bum g or haute as a night nappy until Ari was about 6-8mths but she was a med- light wetter.
Melbel - OMG why do these things always happen at the ungodly hours of the night! Least you know your bathroom is sparkly clean now :-)
Gigi - thanks for that...what about overnight? Currently I have DS in huggies overnight, he slept through (6 hours) for the first time this week...
hot water GIGI..as hot as you can get it even staright out of the kettle or you can put the stuff on the stove to get it really hot
how long for?
what sort of ratio for water to salt?
liek for one litre of boiling water, how much salt?
thanks MELBEL !!! you're a lifesaver.
Laranna - do you mean what to use as a night nappy on a three month old?
Someone asked a very similar question i think in the last page or two, if you scroll back i'm sure you'll see it. Night nappies are generally made with DOUBLE the amount of absorbent layers as a day nappy. But if you are changing bubs every two hours thru the night, (cos they are waking for a feed), a dedicated night nappy is not so urgent. Although i started with two malden mills pocket nappies on my bub quite early, found that pretty darn bulletproof, and it meant i didn't have to change so frequently - i could stuff the pocket as much as she neeeded (customise it).
it was strange, at that young age, i coudln't get PUL pockets to work on her (in the day) cos of the chicken leg thing, but with the malden mills fleece pocket, THAT worked, regardless of chicken leg thing.
SARAM - funky trainers heh?
