lol jodi woohoo! are you using the old or new style?
ali - ive emailed you :)
I have both styles pp, but that particular one was the old style.
ali - hope the rash clears up soon, whatever it is. Are you going to take her to the dr?
Jodi - Yeah I will take her to the Dr.
Well Dolly is confiscated until tomorrow night. As is all treats for Sarah. I have just scrubbed her and Dolly, and DH has cleaned her room (I love it when he gets home early!!) Poo paintings are not fun!!!
Em is nappy free and has been since DH got her up. She is outside playing with him and Sarah. She sat in the shower while I washed Sarah and did her wee in there, which was good, no cleaning up.
PP I think it looks a bit different. I might take some pics and email you back.
Katones- I lurve his nappy where did you get it from? I want to get Aiden a xmas nappy but cant find any
Alioops- Hoping she feels better soon
For all those with crappy weather Im sending you some sunshine to help you out lol
WOHB: purple magicall
Hi guys, been awhile since I've popped in here, hope you're all well :) Just a quick q for you..........I use a combo of MCN and flats, and I normally wash at 40 degrees. I'd like to give my nappies a wash at 60 degrees........can I do all nappies at that temp? PUL pockets and everything? TIA :D
Hi janie - long time no see!!!
I think I kept all the brochures re: care of nappies if you tell me what you have I can look it up for you what temp they recommend?
OH - and PM me your address again - I need to send back those flats to you :)
Hey all!
Jack looks super cute in that Chrissy nappy!!
Ali I hope her rash clears soon! Let us know how you go at the doctors!!
Jodi I love the new magicalls! Ash slept a whole night in a minky one cos I forgot to change him into a night one and we had NO leaks, and it only had the one booster in it :)
Well Ashtons rash is clear!! I love BBH! Now to get some liners...
I converted some friends of mine! One is going to get a nappy to try, one brought one and my sister too is looking into it :) I think I might give her some of Ashtons in April when she has bub. Probably BBH OS.
I went out today with Ashton in the ergo and there was another mum out in a ergo!! She ALSO used cloth nappies so I told her about BB and NC :) Probably not something special to you big city girls but here in Tassie we are few and far between ;)
I accidentally washed Ashtons nappies in the 60E Cotton wash and the leg elastic on my CTBD is stuffed!!!!
WOHB Razzily Rhino Mickey Mouse custom
sez hun ive done 60 degree wash and its fine!!! gets some dettol rinse too
ok girls help me out here with night nappies
i have
zada AI2
SNoozywun
GNST
to try
which need woolies and which dont?
i put ashley in the snoozywun and put a bbh trifold on the outside between it and the longies.
i am thinking now that is useless is that right?
she usually has 15 layers of bamboo at night and i counted only 12 in the snoozywun so nervous with leaks...
and what about the zada? does it need a cover?
i figure the gnst do as they are bamboo outer :P
PP - don't know about zada
Snoozywun technically doesn't require a cover - I always put longies/shorties over them
GNST do require a cover.
Oh and I've never needed another booster on the outside of the snoozywun - its VERY good
so take it off mel??
is the folded one and the hourglass it comes with enough for a heavy wetter?
I never need it *shrugs*
and DS is a pretty good pee machine - specially in his morning floods..
well fingers crossed the trifold is dry in the morn! lol
i cant take it off now :")
going to try the gnst on ethan tomorrow night... i wonder how much boosting he will need?
I've used it on DD - GNST that is - and just did hers as a "medium wetter" and it was fine.
DS has his boosted to the max with the "heavy wetter" boosters
He can barely walk once I've put it on his butt cos its soooo big!!! lol
*waving very sleepedly*
Hello girlfriends
Have had a very tiring day. Took Mateauz to the Doctor this morning just before the Baptism cause his eye has swollen...has a throat infection, 'something viral' and conjunctivitis. So on anit's, special eye drops and panadol..yet he was such a good boy today for us all...didnt complain once. Ive got a sore throat as well and still feel shiat...shoot me
Nikolaus had a great day we were very proud of him. Pics on facebook...havent got the energy to put any up here now...might do tomorrow
Have had to put my nappies in the dryer...its been raining all day...25ml WOO HOO for us.
Oh and I went a hunting at Spotlight again...oh ahhhhhhhhhhh
WOMB - Widdlewuns night nappy (me like ALOT)
Maz - I'm glad you had a good day.. Hope M gets better soon babe!
*mwah*
Go have a nice relaxing shot of scotch or something ;)
Lol Maz at 'something viral'...I HATE taking kids to the doc only to have them say it's viral and there's not much they can do. Hope you enjoyed the baptism.
Sezzy baby, I reckon washing on 60'll be fine, I wouldn't make it a super regular thing, just on the basis of the gentler you treat nappies the longer they last.
PP, I'm hanging for the BBH ones to come out, cos haven't they bought Lotus or something? Maybe I dreamed it? I definitely could have dreamed it. I love Lotus nappies though, definitely my fave.
Or my Catnaps HoneyBoy, but she's not making them anymore *shakes fist in Cat's lovely direction*.
I am supposed to get sun today!!! Oh glorious day! Sun! Sun! Sun!!!! I have to have it, because despite washing my nappies twice they still have that poo stain on it. Poor Jovie's bum is nearly purple in parts. Unfortunately that means... another fricken food trial for us. I hate them.
ANyway.... WOHB sposie :(
Mel -ooh might try the gnst soon on DS,.... they are medium so he has a litle more weight to put on (not much he is 5.2kg now!)
Oh as for the snoozywun....... ok got ashley up , took the longies off and woohooo!!! the trifold on the outside was = DRY, then took her nappy off and mmmm the whole nappy was = DRY lol... she hadnt even peed !
SO we went to the toliet and she peed on the toliet! woohoooo (cant help but feel sad for all those beautiful MCNS that may soon be invalid :(
Nelle - i did hear something similar... a few companies are buying other ones.. didnt bubblebubs buy out someone too?
Maz - i hope his little eye is better!
Christy - woot woot for sun - we do too (i have the clothes horse out for the 3rd day in a row! hopefullly today will be dry day).
i hope the food trials find the culpriut quickly for you :( poor darling.
WOAB - Haute
WOEB - BG
Nelle you didn't imagine that about BBH buying Lotus but I don't know how long before it's all happening.
Maz poor little guy :( I saw the FB pics too. Looks like a great day :)
Christy - **** purple bits....so its allergy related? SHiat woman!!!! We dont have sun...but we've had 15m's again over night woo hoo
Nelle - it was fun and very uplifting. Father was fabulous and really made it.
WHAT BBH have bought out Lotus??? OMG can you imagine the nappies that will come from that...WOW cant wait to see them
Sammi - his eye is a bit better today but ive got his sore throat so ive taken some panadean forte....*maz floats of with the fairies* oh Ive found that bracelet to...will post to you along with the BP's
have a mountains of washing to wash and hang....so my place is gonna look like a chinesse laundry mat soon
Hey Ange - how did the trip away go?
AH having to many brain farts BBL when I can think
WOMB - lime green IB
Maz - glad Nik's day went great!
No MCN on my boys yet, have decided to wait til all my fluffy mail arrives, the itti bitti's and BBHs are on their way so should come this week. Not sure about the Cloth'd Up, prob this week too. Yippee.
I so wish I could sew but after a traumatic experience in 9th grade sewing I vowed never to touch a machine again. Id love to be as creative as some of our resident sewing extraordinnaires! I think Id like sewing if I knew how.
Anywho got a bday party to go to for one of Jetts fellow daycare detainee's and I need to look my best as I wont know a single soul there.
Maz - Got parcel in the post by 6pm last night and the website said it should take up to 5 days, so you should get it next friday  I am glad you had a great day!!
Gigi - Thanks for that link you emailed me. That does give me some hints because I HAVE had tea tree oil on a cotton wool ball in the nappy bucket, that could be the cause. I will take that off and see how we go. Her face has cleared up again. I might give her a few days before we visit the doc, once I have strip washed all the nappies and taken the tea tree oil away.
Anna - My machine is from the late 70s / early 80's and is temperamental but if you want to try with it you are welcome to, I have plenty of needles (I break them occasionally) It was a 21st birthday present to my mum from my grandparents. I have done a few things on it and dont use it too much, but it does the job.
PP - We are at the same stage. Sarah is usally dry when she wakes up from her nap, and sometimes in the morning when she gets up she takes her nappy off and uses her potty. She is too close to fully TT for my liking atm, but 2 in nappies is easier than 3 in nappies.
WOEB: Froggy CT with upside down boosters
hello ladies!
Well I'm slowly getting better, Maz, I reall hope you don't have what I have cause I'm still knocked around by it. Glad to see all went well for N, and hoping M's on the mend.
Ali - hoping the rash cleared up soon.
PP - Only probs I have with snoozywuns is when I don't do them up tightly enough round his tum, he's a tummy sleeper. Very rarely use anything over them.
Sammi - OMG Ruby has your looks! How sweet!!!!!
Us - well we had our Xmas concert, I had Pip in his Maz elf cover with a red tshirt and elf hat complete with ears ... Everyone loved him, he was the only cloth bum proudly displayed at the CC concert. Had quite a few comments about the cloth!!!
Huge pile of washing today, 2 loads of nappies  But I've been changing nappies very frequently, his little bits aren't red or peeling any more :)
WoHB - BBB with BB pul for his nap, it was a suprise nap :(
We spent some of nap time re-arranging the laundry, so now the dryer is up on the wall instead of on the bench, and I have the cat's stuff in there now for when we get home from our holidays and put her on a plane up here. I have a sign on the door now that says Caution Indoors Only Cat Please ensure all doors are shut before opening the Laundry door.
I have strip washed every nappy we own while they have been down and had them in sposies. The nappy bucket is outside getting aired out. I might squirt it with the hose soon. We put a tonne of zinc NR cream on Em's bits with the sposie to help it clear again.
Kaz - I have just done 2 loads of strip wash. I hope they dry fast!!
WOTB: Sposies. Every thing else is either in the machine on the last rinse or on the line.
Does anyone in here have a really CHUBBA BUBBA
i mean chubby and in the 2 year range i am thinking still in nappies
I am sorting through all my nappies and things and i found a pair of shorties i knitted and they are huge (this is not an overstatement! if the leg whole were bigger i could wear as hotpants.. sexy i know).
anyhow ashley will never grow in them.
well you can let me know if you want them, ill pm meaurements. they were knitted with 12 ply aussie 100% wool and have a very high waist rise (which you can fold over if you need to).
alioops- how do i put an order thru? i think i still gt $5 credit.
PP I was almost going to say Ashton my 8kg 3 month old until I read the hot pants bit
Not THAT chubba!
lol yeah they arebig on ashley and she is 10kg
i guess i got a little excited when i knitted them lol
i will see if i can alter them but i am not that talented in my knitting lol
WOAB - Zada night nappy
WOEB - pooey Sposie
Sooo tired, had a wedding today...yaawwwnnn...PP, Riv's 2 and about 15kg according to WiiFit. Is that big? Could she just wear them as pants when she gets big enough?
At least you CAN knit!
Well I have to say that Ashtons nappy rash is gone except for on his legs, which I think is eczema from the fleece cos it was only when he wore his WC :( NOOOOOO!
Oh well, lots of cream and fingers crossed it clears up completely!
A wedding? I hope the weather was a little better than here then... been raining and cold all day
WOHB - Bits For Bots rainbow nappy (size 2 already!)
All this reading now i can't rememer who said what....
Christmas AIO nappy on ozebaby for whoever was looking! Bits for bots.
Also there is a store on ozebaby that sell a bide spray, like a LS for $60. Looks like A LS to me!
Trip was good Maz, my butt was sore from sitting in the car for 9 hours! Think we'll be hanging around for a bit longer. ;) House was like a little camp out, rough even by my standards! lol
WOHB? W/C, which reminds me i won another WC night nappy on B4B! woohoo.
Hi All
Quick message before I head to bed.
The kissaluvs I am drooling over on B4B are well and truly out of my price range now - oh well!
I need to get up in the attic SOON and get out all my newborn nappies and covers and see if I think I need to get anything else between now and July.
I'm assuming if I list my newborn stash on here the nappy guru's (aka: Nelle and Gigi - just to name a couple) will let me know if I'm set or need some more!!
We've had a busy weekend already (mother's group Christmas party yesterday arvo, and HUGE re-stocking shopping trip today - gotta love that DH and niece did virtually NO shopping while I was gone) and tomorrow we're having an afternoon tea for my father-in-law who just retired!
I'm exhausted and DS is calling me so I think I'll sign off and go to bed.
WOHB: BBH bamboo with BBH cover
Pink Palace - sorry if you know this already, but JIC you don't, i MAY be able to put your mind at rest - vis a vis The Case of the Enormous Woollies!
with fleece covers and PUL covers, FIT is key. Too big and you get lotsa leaks.
but with HANDKNIT WOOLLIES and even some LOOMED FABRIC woollies, too big is actually still ok. The drawstring or adjustable elastic waist takes care of the waist being too big. The legholes being loose is ok. i have NO clue HOW this works, but i have tried it out. And putting bilby to bed, in soakers, shorties - that are enormous on her - still get to pick up a dry baby in the morning. So i say to you "ALL IS NOT LOST!". Try them out on your child BEFORE you give up! Of course, they need to be lanolised first, for them to be waterproof (over a fitted nappy). Unless you are using them as clothing, over any nappy, in which case, no need for lanolisation.
so i hope that helps you, after your stellar efforts to knit for your child (good on you, me (another non-knitter) i'm terribly impressed!
ALIOOPS - wow, you're having a very productive Saturday - *cough* nesting? much? LOL.
KAZBAH - i'm terribly predictable - you know what's coming don't you ' Any photos of your xmas elf?" cos i'm nosy and want to see!! Tis ok, roolly and troolly, if you felt too sick to take photos, i will cope (just).
hope you're back to good health soon, you've been unwell for ages it seems, poor chook.
a few months ago, i heard that Lotus Night Nappies will be under the Baby Beehinds brand in the near future. Lotus Nappies site shut up shop, and then she posted on Nappycino, hints that the Night nappies would be back soon. Baby Beehinds have never had a dedicated night nappy in their range before (although every so often, they stock hand knit soakers), so it's a good move for them to get a range of night nappies, i think.
Pink Palace, Bubblebubs have bought the license to make Cute Tooshies.
AnnaT - when all your fluffy mail arrives, remember about the pre-washes. It's not 100% essential to do them all, but if you put the nappies on your kids BEFORE all the pre-washes have been done, bear in mind, they will not be AS absorbent, as they will be AFTER the pre-washes have been completed. e.g you will have to change earlier, they'll soak thru much quicker. But do do at LEAST one pre-wash, to remove industrial residues.
the rule of thumb for pre-washes (i'm forever forgeeting the nubmers)
- one for microfibre
- one for PUL, fleece, minky e.g nappy outers, covers, pocket shells
- three for bamboo e.g fitteds, inserts for all in twos, pocket inserts, boosters
- 6 - 8 for hemp e.g as for bamboo
anything white and fluffy e.g microfibre, i'd be either washing separately first time (or wash with pale towels), esp if the other MCN has dark coloured fleece etc, or separate them by using a big zipppered wash bag - just so you're not picking up lint forever and a day - the first wash is when the white fluffy stuff loses most of it's fluff.
PUL doesn't pick up the fluff, but fleece does, something chronic.
Great news about Ashley and how well her TT-ing is going Ashley, woot to that.
i eagerly want to hear how to achieve TT-ing! the actual steps in doing it (esp at the start). i'm not even sure if bilby understands Yes and No, and she sure can't say them herself. maybe i am kidding myself to start now, i'm not sure WHEN to start. but other children who are two either ARE or are starting to TT-ing, so i thought i should try.
WOTBB: dragonflymagik night nappy Ai2 under loose cotton sleeping bag
Hey Heidi, my perfect memory has totally escaped me (I think I've left it in Brisbane)... where are you again??
Hi
I'm sad... Miss M is finally too big for the FJ newborn nappy - at nearly 4.5 months.. pmsl...sooo FJ - you can add a weight limit of around 6.3kg... lol
:( It was one of my favs.... have to wait for the next baby now!!!
Christy - is it just me or are you ignorning my requests for your address ? ;)
Not much going on here. No new nappies.
Gigi - yes i know! lol that is why these are way too big for ashley lol! here other 2 i made are a nice snug fit! :)
As for TT - i too need to look up what to do - atm ashley tell us when she has to pee/poo or has already done one - it is very hit and miss with timing. and trying to figure out if she needs to or has already. but she is comfy on the toliet at least :)
Nelle - the measurements are (flat, unstretched and one side)
Rise 14 inch (the waist band in k2-2 and 4 inches of that rise)
waist - 8 inch
hips - 13 inch
:) so big anyhow they are lanolised already. Just PM me if you think they will fit
Gigi - thanks for the tips on washing my stash, Im itching to get started but they have to arrive first lol thankgod for mega hot weather here, I could probably do 4 washes in a day with drying in between!
Out of curiousity what do you guys use as wash powder? I know you cant use softeners.
Oh and Wetbags, who uses them? Are they worth spending $15+ to get one or is there a better cheaper alternative?
Anna - i dont have a special wet bag. I use a pvc lined swimming bag for big days (child care) and a small platic ziplock bag that came with my change mat for small trips (as i know i will be home in an hour or so)
As for wash powder.
I use soap nuts on my nappies. havent used washing powder in months now. :)
WOAB - BG
WOEB - BBB
Anna - for wash powder, i use Aware Sensitive by Planet Ark.
Bilby had teh worst nappy rash last January, and it made me go research alot of things, to stop her rash.
we use
- one tablespoon in the pre-wash tray
= one tablespoon in the wash tray
and you're right NO FABRIC CONDITIONER
what is in washing detergents?
parabens (cheap preservative put in many body and hair products and toothpastes and moisturisers adn makeup, many people get skin irritations to parabens)
- SLS (cheap foaming agent - sodium laureth sulphate)
- colours
- perfumes
- enzymes
- optical brighteners
many many things are added to NORMAL washing detergents
so i searched for ones that DIDN"T have all these things added
the most gentle ones i found were Ecostore and Aware Sensitive.
Amolin, Earth's Choice and one other, maybe PURITY??, all came close, but they each had ONE thing, that i was tryign to avoid.
Many people do their own (empirical) research, by trying different products, to see what works for their child.
Baby's skin is much thinner than ours, and can react to washing detergents, especially when you consider how frequently their nappies are washed, adn the fabric is direct on very sensitive areas.
So it's a trial n error process, and taking the time (when i'm childfree) to read the labels, google those words and educate myself on what i'm buying (time consuming - but when your bub has awful nappy rash, it suddenly becomes your priority).
So i happily used Omo Sensitive to wash the nappies for first 14 months - no worries - then overnight - suddenly it was too much for her. things can change.
$15 is lower end price for a good sized wetbag. baby beehinds don't promote their wetbag much, i wish i'd known about them earlier. excellent value wetbag (i have three diff brand ones). Much easier to toss the wetbag into the wash than wipe out your nappy bag. ANd the smell containment is worth it. (zip).
