Lulu - welcome :)
When you say "cloth" or "fitted nappies" do you mean something like an all in one type of nappy - and fitted nappies? I'm a little confused, being they are all cloth ;)
Its hard to know what would be right for you - have you checked out Nelle's thread for new users?
That should clear a few things up for you!!
:)
Nothing new here - DS has done a big poo in his widdlewuns...
Oh yes.. Maz.. stir the pot as much as you like honey ;)
Mel I would say she means terry flats over MCN.
BBH's are a good nappy but don't suit all. Will also be too big for a New NB. Iain is 5 weeks & 5.5kgs & fits them now but no way as a new new baby.
Look into prefolds!
i find the bulky ness too much.
yes the leg is a little bigger but the cover holds the pooplosions in
because he is a tummy sleeper the less bulk at his tummy is better for us :)
Waiting waiting waiting for the postie................dont know if Im going to survive waiting for all this fluffymail lol Im like a kid at christmas!
Oh and anyone have any info on the Bright Bots fitted nappies (I think thats what theyre called?) There is a cool store here that sells them really cheap.........
Question! I washed Ashtons nappies today with just a hot wash, and no washing powder (because I ran out lol) and surprisingly they smelt fine.
Does anyone else use just water? Is this getting it clean because it's a hot wash? Should I be using powder??
Anna, i googled "bright bots nappies" and all the links were about cotton terry flats. I coudln't find any fitted nappies under that name (online) - doesnt' mean they don't exist, i just can't find net refs to them.
whenever you see a nappy brand, new to you, check out what the fabrics used are. Sometimes things are really cheap, cos they're all cotton (not as absorbent as hemp or bamboo). or they use PVC instead of PUL for the waterproofing outer.
I saw a whole row of MCN type stuff in Kmart today, if i was a newbie, i would have bought it without question. Now i am more familiar with the fabrics that do and don't work for MCN, i wouldn't buy any of it.
there were Fluffies terry towelling fitted nappies, PVC pilchers, Fluffies covers, PVC covers with animals on them etc. Only thing i would buy there (that i know would work) would be snappis and cotton terry flats (if i wanted those for a newborn).
NANA - please don't hesitate to give your opinion on anything MCN. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's on this thread hon. we all use MCN on our bubs, therefore, we can comment from experience. Speak up hon!
ALIOPPS - don't kids ahve to be TT-d before they're accepted for kindy?
I know the ones you mean Anna....I saw them before they were released at the last fashion trade fair.....to be honest they are an all cottom fitted nappy so theywill need a cover and also I have my doubts as to how absorbant they would be.....I have a suspicion if you got them you would find they would need a bit of boosting to really do the job well. To me for a cotton fitted they did not appear to have an awful lot of layers but then again if you don't have heavy weeing kids they could be great for you. Also if you plan to use them in the early days when you are changing every feed or even more so then maybe they would be okay...you know what i mean? Just my two cents worth.... and as they ar so inexpensive maybe you could grab just a couple and try them out before committing to a huge buy up especially if the store is local.... then if they don't work for you, you havent lost too much money!
missymoo- Before we started with these bad poos, I would only use hot water with a bit of bicarb in it. I've got a huge box of soap nuts I was using a few of those at a time as well.
Maybe one should check past postings in this thread ;)
Gigi - I saw the same in my Kmart and it looked very deceiving. I had a lady ask me were the nappies were in the toy section and I proudly said...sorry cant help - we use cloth. should have seen the look she gave me
Of to prepare for the day
Mel - so which colours will one be going with
Didn't have TIME to check past threads. Had a screaming baby and wanted to know if I should put them away or keep them out for rewashing lol That's 14 pages of posts to go through!
Mel - we were only talking about it yesterday cause Anna was asking about it as well :)...you'll probably find that they wont be as irritating on Ashton's bum, especially with NR...only thing I do (thanks to Christy) is put in Bicarb once a week and every 3rd wash I use some disinfectant..just a cap full.
I should give this washing with no liquid a try I think.. my nappies smell funny after a wash..... could be the Amolin ya reckon?
And where do you put the bicarb? in the dispenser that the fabric softener goes in? I put my liquid down the inside of the agitator - so would the disinfectant go in there? Any help appreciated!!!!!!
Mazzie - colours? was that to me or one of the other Mels - damn difficult to know with so many mels in here... I may *shock horror* have to start going by my extended name *gasp*
Have child on me - difficult to type. BBL
WOAB: WC
WOMB: Black IB.... MMmmMMMmm... Black itti....
Have gastro. :( Feeling sorry for me.
Maz got parcel, will try and get to post office today, no promises but will do my best.
Mel- i put the bicarb in where i would put washing powder if i use it. i was using purity and my nappies got a more smelly. Apparently even the mild detergents build up a little in the nappies which in turn causes smells. The left over residue is what makes your clothes smell nice, then the bad smalls can get 'trapped' with the residue making them smelly. (This is how it was explained to me anyway!)
Detergent doesn't disinfect, it has no antibacterial properties, all the de-germing is done by the sun. So the way i see it is if they look clean from just water and i hang them in the sun they are fine. Bicarb eliminates odour. I have some in my fridge all the time to absorb any nasty smells!
I am keen to find out more about soap nuts though...... are they a detergent?
Lying on loungroom floor watching justine clarke. A gals gotta do what she can to survive!
WOHB? NFI DH did it.
So you should only do that if you are going to hang them out in the sun? Since I'm at work during the week, a lot of my washing is done of a night time then hung on the clothes horse inside - a couple of times a week they get put outside in the sun - but more often than not they are hanging inside.
I dont always use detergent either, and I haven't had a problem so far. DS only gets rashy when he's been teething. Everything smells clean.
Gigi - you pretty much got me where I am today with MCN, and you put it so nicely... I have such a handful of a child who is seriously allergic to sleep, therefore I couldn't possibly find two brain cells to rub together and put it all into words again... but I have a question for you that you've no doubt answered before - I put my new woolies in to soak in lanolin and the water immediately turned the same colour as the woolies. If this amount of dye is going to run, it's going to turn everything red every time kiddo wees. Should I use salt to fix the dye? Or will the vinegar do it?
OK, I have an overtired screamer in my lap... gotta go
WOHB: BumG
Soapnuts - not a fan over here at all... :dunno: Such a shame 'cause I was SO excited when I got them.
It sucks Punk being in sposies... have hardly anything cloth related to talk about at all!! I miss you guys!!!
Ange - Hope you feel better soon, I feel sorry for you too!!
AHh the penny drops more for me Ange....didnt know that about the residue but it makes sence. NOw go put a nappy on to catch that gastro
Mel GO GO mobile (yes Arimeh) - I dont hang my nappies up outside much  they go on the clothes horse mainly too...maybe once a week I take the clothes horse out side for a walk...colours yes...what colours would you be using????
Have decided time to get rid of our BP's :( 6 of them...just have to pull finger and take pics of them and our SB to put up on B4B
And  I can t find 4 pairs of our baby legs...I bet my darling little so and so Vy had them in her room
Vic - put a cover over the sposie babe :) you wont have to look at the ugliness of them then
Off to the post office *maz says skipping*
WOMB - black IB and his flame baby legs (lent from aunty Sammi)
Colours colours.. purple polka dotted minky..
oh I lioke that
mel what are you sewing up????
i hate bloody BBH magicalls!!!!!!
WOJB ~ FJ infant /maz boy blue cover (my fave cover!!)
Kat - nada.. I can't sew.. everyone knows that ;)
Oh and why do you hate Magic-alls?
i hate them..because EVERY time he wears them they bloodywell leak....
lol.. yeah I had that problem too... I thought it was just my kids!
and there are no gapping leg holes...and they are on quite firm..BUT they still damnwell leak....
yeah same with mine. Dunno what it was. Must have power wee-ers or something.. lol
soapnuts- i dont mind them as they've been the only thing ive used on dragon's washing. havent had any problems YET
i dry ALL our clothes on a clothes horse indoor cos there's major roadworks going on near us. I'd love to take them out in the sun though...
i love my babylegs (but DP thinks they make dragon poo fy)...guess i'd hav to invest in more then LOL
WOHB: sage haute
ETA- i know this isnt really nappy related, but what do u like to carry ur babies? we have an ergo, i like it but im after something else that would allow me to bend so that i can still do work ard the house...
Well (touch wood) I think we have found the culprit!!! I think Em is allergic to tea tree oil!! She is getting clearer every day!! Any other suggestions for de-stinking the nappy bucket?
Gigi - Do you want the liners back hun? We havent used them coz your link arrived the day before the liners. I had not thought of the tea tree oil causing it before reading that link.
MissyMoo Mel - There have been MANY times that I have asked a question that someone answered on the previous page. Dont worry, we all do it at least once!
Suppose I should go do some washing so we have clean clothes to pack, but knowing me it will be done later.
I often put some cornstarch or bicarb in the bottom of the bucket to soak any...erm, juices. And maybe a drop of eucalyptus or lavender? Lavender might be less irritating...
Hi movers & groovers...
Man there seems to be a lot of gastro going around. It's weird, but I've never actually had gastro. Like, ever. (*Knocks very, very hard on wood*). Hope the sickies are better soon.
Hmmm nappy news... Now all three of my natural bamboozles are falling apart. The coloured ones are fine, it's just the natural ones. So I'm really baffled now. I thought it might have been because one ended up in the wet bag with towels and togs after swimming once, but it's not. :dunno: I'm confuzzled. I'm also running out of nappies  And no, that's not an excuse to buy more LOL.
WOHB: an undoubtedly very very wet by now keester kovers AIO (he fell asleep before I could change him and he was due for a change. Oops)
thats weird Suse - are they a bamboo? Cos my ib's are still doing weird stuff (holes etc) and I think its the wee - or something. or the cats. :dunno:
And lucky you that he is sleeping. My boy child has decided that he doesn't NEED a nap today. And unless I hit him over the head with something heavy - I think my chance of getting him to have one today is pretty much buckleys...
Woot woot got my BBH fitteds and they are currently going through wash #2
Now if only my itti's would hurry up and get here so I can put the boys in cloth full time
I am jealous of all your BBH :( i think i need to buy more :D hubby will kill me though!!!!
WOJB ~ i have no friggin idea!!! hubby changed him :D
What did you get Anna? Was it the hemp & magicalls?
Bummer the magicalls don't work well for you guys Kat & Mel. I love them. Emily had a 3.5 hour sleep in one the other day and no leaking. But I'm thinking maybe I need some girlie colours as most of the ones I own are blue and green lol
Emily had a shocking nappy rash this week, which is almost cleared up now. Poor little chicken. I've never had to deal with a nappy rash before, thankfully I had a sample nappy rash cream
mel (arimeh) - I have 2 itti bittis that are starting to fall apart. It's very weird, considering I only bought them about 2 months ago.
Just the fitted hemp Jodes.
Itti sent me a msg saying they shipped out my fluffy mail on thursday so hopefully theyll be here tomorrow yayeeeeeeee!
So now Im just waiting on my Cloth'd Up nappies and an exciting parcel full of Maz's lovely goodies! I think they are what I am mega excited about lol
oh no jodi - not yours too!!!! must be a teething thing!!!
Mazzie - two sharp smacks for you missy - jodi dobbed ya in ;)
i am not a fan of the hemp.. i found they are a looser fit than the bamboo, and our bamboo is NOT saturated in the morning..it is wet but not sopping..where as the hemp was SOPPING!!!
 But it's all good, I explained that you HAD to tell me, otherwise they're be no xmas present for you!! haha
anna - let me know how the hemp goes. I only have the bamboo, so can't give advice on them.
The ittis are devine, you're going to love them. And Maz's covers are fantastic! Which is why I own about 12 of them, just for Emily :o And yes, I do need more.
I have the hemp one - I use it for day naps rather than any huge length of time.. I find its stiffer than my bamboo one which always stays nice and soft.. but still a good nappy :)
And yeah Maz, me still loves ya ;)
We're pigging out on popcorn at the moment - me and Mr Cranky Pants...
WOAB: a lovely PINK haute
WOMB: errr.. can't remember.. some WAHM one I think?
