tips for mcn and gastro
use plainest stuff you own e.g flats, prefolds - all the stuff wihtout elastic.
so you can wash it at 90 degrees
keep doing the 90 degree wash for a fortnight after gastro has gone, cos that's how long the gastro bug can survive in fabric
terry fabrics (loopy fabrics) soak up the gastro poo the best (e.g quickly)
ventilation is key
keeping bottom dry (frequent changes), nappy free time when possible, and not using synthetics, cos that will mean less ventilation.
i kept a PUL cover with leg gussets for this cause too, cos those covers are so good at catching runny poo. but in the last 28 months, i think bilby only had gastro once, for a day at the most. i read SO MANY threads about mcn and gastro, tried to be so prepared, and then i didn't really need that info much LOL. oh well, at least i've been able to share it with other mcn mummies. (so my illspent insomnia has been for somebody's benefit ha ha).
rayray - fairy fabrics have lovely colours in cotton velour
kazbah - any pics of the cowboy pants? i wanna see!
Kazbah are you expecting hon? or was the maternity pj's ref, to do with when you were in hossy having Mr Pip?
maz - great woo hoo on the bike for Mat, i'm after a trike for bilby, looking on freecycle. i'd didn't realise you liked giraffe so much, genesa forge has giraffe minky nappies too. thanks so much for the fabric on the way!
does Vy have night trainers? Blueberry make cowprint ones! LOL.
our progression has been nappies, then waterproof trainers. They don't catch EVERYTHING, but between them and a bed protector mattress thingy, at least the mattress is saved. How many kg is Vy now?
anyone doing a BUSY BEE theme? i just saw the cutest BEE nappy on the Genesa Forge site, i think Nikki must REALLY be having fun with her embroidery machine! it was on the home page.
CHARMLEA - congrats for surviving moving house - my LEAST fave thing to do. i have a small kiddo too, i had her size larges all ready for her, and then she decides to TT! so i hear you. i even have an XL bilby cover that she will never fit! now that IS sacreligious!!
CHeeky - many OSFA are good in the middle range. not great for all nbs, don't fit all bigger toddlers, but good in the middle. but if you have a larger nb, or your kid tt-s early, they might fit all along.
i found Mandy Macs and Cute Tooshies and Whizz Kidz to fit sooner (at the new baby stage)
bilby is tt-ing, but the whizz kidz would have fitted her for a few kilos more (she had outgrown the rise in the cute tooshies).
apparently the average weight at which a bub tt-s is 13kg. (god knows where i read that in the last three years! but it's stuck in my head!)
most osfa nappies are made to fit from around 4 - 15/16kg.
but some children weigh MORE than 16kg by the time they tt.
some kids day train early, but stay in night nappies for a while.
"every kid is different etc"
i always thought, if bilby was still in nappies, by the time she outgrew our size 2 nappies (8 - 16kg), i would just buy some XL or XXL sized nappies for the rest of it. but she's tt-d at 11.1kg. Some things you just don't know unti lthey happen. I sure woudln't have bought the amount of 10-17kg stuff i did if i knew she was going to tt this darn early.
you are exactly right, a small stash of OSFA will get used more, washed more, so will get more wear n tear.
initially OSFA sounds most attractive to newbies (cost wise) but fit wise, i've much preferred the size 1's and the size 2's for us. sized nappies worked the best for bilby. with a few exceptions, e.g the whizz kidz osfm and the cute tooshies. early on, i loved the mandy macs too. It's hard to generalise, each brand has it's own good points and i haven't tried every brand - you'll notice all my reccy's are narrow crotched sidesnappers cos that's what worked for bilby's shape. Different shaped child might do much better in front snaps, wide crotched nappies. they're all different.
Cheeky Monkey - are you after monkey themed mcn by any chance? i'm sure i sure a monkey mcn on babysoftlandings a few months ago, it might have been a Happy Heiny pocket print.
and there is a Lesley's Boutique "monkey yoga" wetbag.
Kitten - hope you get well soon. Times like that, a decent sized stash sure does have it's UP side.
Micro chamois is different to suedecloth Raven, i bought a half metre of it. Very nice for inners, toppers for mama pads too. I once saw it as a nappy inner and that decided me. Then i used it for a custom night nappy inner. Lovely. I think Fairy Fabrics or maybe Nappies covered have it, i'm sure i saw it last night, lurking on fabric sites. sort of like a short pile, very fine, velvet, i dunno, hard to describe in words, it's much nicer IRL!
ANNA - you birthing goddess, home so soon? i'm so pleased for you hon! looking forward to reading your posts all aboot it.
CK is up!
I've been a very naughty girl.
Is there such a thing as sleep-shopping?
happens to me all the time CM lol
I think it is actually classed as a syndrome now
well it's offical I have bought my last nappy ever I think. I got the pink nebula for my Dd and i think that's it for me unless my stash goes up in smoke or something over the next few months :-)
PS can I just say OMGosh at how quick those nappies went at 1AM we are all nuts!!!!!!
