Cloth Nappies #174.

We are having to use the dryer here CM, I just dont have enough nappies for all 3 to get me through the 2 day drying time *sigh*

Happy Mums Day ladies :) I got spoilt for the first time ever (only took Dh 5yrs of marriage to clue in hahaha). I got a sleep in, cooked breaky, pandora bracelet and charm, big box of Roses choccies and a homemade (at kindy) card and poem from Ds2.

Re : CT - washed 3 times and worn today for 3 hours, and had leaked all up his back (he was asleep in the pram so I couldnt check him between 2 - 3 hours) ... would the reason be hasnt reached full absorbency?? I dont think I could have done it up any tighter on him without leaving marks ....

Cos mine are still new I am only leaving them on for around 2 hours until they have had a few more washes.

What amount of time do you usually leave yours on for?? - just generally ... I have IB's snap ins, CT's, Ecobub and a Wildchild if that makes any difference .... but just to gimme an idea ...

Anna and CM- Yay for a true spoiling!!! I got cereal and 2 hand paintings, DH got up early with the girls and they did paintings before bringing me brekky.

CM - When we use sposies they are the Nature Babycare ones. They are made in NZ. I also dry the nappies in the lounge (we dont use it much being the hottest room in the house) with the ceiling fan on medium to high. They seem to dry fairly fast and if we are running out then I finish them off in the dryer.

Jess - Yeah I keep an eye on it, IE is easier for hackers to spy with so I use firefox and clear the cookies regularly.

WOEB: NBC sposie. DH forgot to fill the nappy bag up and it was the last nappy in there.
WOSB: Aquarium CT.

Thanks Kazbah and Ali - where would I find these Nature Babycare? At the supermarket? Please don't tell me their expensive or DF (then DH :D ) will chuck a fit.

Ali - it's the thought that counts with presents and breakfast in bed. It might have only been cereal but at least you didn't have to pour the milk yourself. Home made presents are the BEST presents! I would take one of DS's paintings over any other present. You're one very lucky Mummy.

SamiH - Sorry I can't offer any help. I don't have any CT's (one supposedly in the mail but hasn't shown up) but I would say to keep persevering with them until they've had a few more washes. I believe that not only washing them helps build up absorbency, but the wee does too.

CM - Contact Shell about that nappy, Is it one of the ones she is doing via Eparcel? She should be able to track it. The only ones that haven't come within a few days to me have been the post office not carding me, and they got in trouble for it. The NBC are about average price for a decent sposie (similar price to huggies) so just tell him that if you weren't using cloth at home that they would be costing you that every week and isn't he glad you use cloth ;) I am very happy with my mother's day presents, the girls love painting and have been asking to do it all week and we had all the bills rock up in the last pay so if I am going to get anything bought it will be a late one.

Sami - Give it a few more washes. He may also be a heavy wetter. Is it a Couture or a Basix? If it is a Couture then pop the mini booster at the back when he is going to be laying down a lot, and more towards the front when he is more upright. If it is a Basix then pop an extra booster in. Basix is only 4 layers of bamboo, Couture is 6 layers.

Ali - I'm not sure how it was being posted. It was a second from ebay. I thought I'd try a cheap second to see if the fit was right before I bought good new ones. It's been more than a week and I saw that someone else has received theirs - just not me? It's being sent to my PO Box so I might check in there on Monday and ask if they've forgotten to card me? :rolleyes: I know what you mean about all of your bills arriving at once. We're paid monthly, and not only do we have our regular bills but also all the wedding expenses at the moment too.

Hmm aren't I silly. I was thinking about what you said about having the nappies hanging to dry near a fan. Realised I haven't had the fan on in that room - DURRRR :doh: So it's on now, they should dry quicker.

Thanks Ali - i have coutures - and I did put the mini one behind - maybe he is just a big wetter after all and I just never knew!! But yeah, I know they need a few more washes to get their absorbency up. The mini was prob more towards the front though cos i didnt expect him to be asleep that long in the pram - he never is when I want him to :rolleyes:

Once absorbent ........... - how long does everyone keep them on bubs/toddlers if they are a medium wetter? just to gimme an idea :)

Sammi H - i think three hours is a bit long. in MCN, i changed bilby "as needed", whether she weed or pooped 30 mins after i changed her, not by the clock, by the need to be changed. i did this to avoid nappy rash. THree hours sounds like what you might do with a sposie, but not with a mcn. There were times when she DID get left in a mcn for three hours (When out, and not easy to get to changeroom), but at home, i could monitor her output better, and change her whenever i wanted to.

at childcare, i left instructions she was to be changed every two hours. (they had no clue how to check her, or what a dry or wet nappy even looked like).

i suspect the Cushie Tushie will work fine, if he is changed more reguarly. I know you're new to this thread, but i'm unsure how long you've been using mcn for. Could it be that you've jsut switched over? and might be still in the mindset, of how often to change sposies? cos that's what alot of other new users have said. it's a change of mindset, takes time to get your head around that, if you're not used to it.

it sounds like more work, but if you look at the long term - child likely to toilet train younger, due to being in mcn, it's worth it. and worth it to avoid nappy rash.

Thanks Gigi - I am a newbie to MCN's yes. I am trying to get my head around the changing part - especially if he has been in one for like 30 mins and he needs to go to bed for a sleep during the day - to change him or not and all those questions. But I am at home so can change him frequently that is ok - my DH is well on board, but now thinks I have created more work for myself with the two other kiddies as well LOL

I have my first full load on the clotheshorse from use!! - only 2 cloth to use today thought until more of mine arrive my fluffy mail. We'll get there ;)

SamH- i had same issues... forgetting to chaged or trying to remember how long it had been on JIC i may have a leakage... Now if she has been in it a while i change JIC if its been a short time i will add a cover... My CT are great now they have been used and washed frequently... (i liove them so they get workout) they still have a bit of dampness round the leg area (sometimes the babylegs get a bit wet... its usually from compression leaks from her falling on her butt etc while trying to walk.

Also i was a newbie a while ago... we now have a few dyas of cloth and its so nice not to have to stress bout not having nappies ready... Now My DS tells me when were runing out... hehehe

Hopefully today or tomoz i will have my layby in hands... cant wait... DS is excited cos he knows the parcel man will be here with Fluff... hhehehe

Lat night was aweful.. Well the whole day wasnt great... DD was all out of wack. wouldnt sleep at the right times etc... changed her ready for bed in her NN and with in 5 mons she pooped... Grrr... but i managed to get both NN's dry with the heat on so i just chaged her and then 5 mons later she was going again... (dioreah) Poor thing) so i had no NN ended up adding some extra boosting to the pop-in and it was fine over night.


Oh forgot to add... My DD seems to have wetter periods some times she can go hours without a change... Others itsshort time... (i still havent worked out if its the nappy or her just wetting more at those times...i think its the wetting at diff times tho ) Usually i change her 1st thing in the morning when she wakes up cos i hate the urine smell... then i usually use a not so fav one cos its usually poop time... HAHAHAHA so i add extra lining to catch the nasties i have tried to sit her on the potty but she isnt ready so no biggy. we go through about 5 naps during the day + a NN (unless she does what she did last night and poop in them both...

well im back ! sleep school was fantastic and gabs is such a different baby , i never seen her eat/sleep and be happy so much !!!! ahhh my little girl :) she was in the nappies supplied by the hosp. and i just brought my own PUL covers .. the nurses or the pead had never seen the covers before and the nurse didnt know where to look for the bin to put the cloth in. she confessed no one had ever asked her to get her one and shes never seen anyone use them !!!

the TT were fine and the rash/opensores that the sposies caused while we were camping are nearly gone . I was sooo glad to get her home in to her new D'lishes as she never got a chance to wear them much before we went in .. i used a sposie over night as i didnt trust PUL and a TT over night ...

I got fluff while i was away !! yay .. 4 woddle bots ... i orded 3 aaages ago and when i got them they had leg gape really bad ( gabbi has a short rise and its a big problem in most nappies !) so i sent them back and the lovely krystie unpicked and resewed and re elasticed them for me , and included a free nappy !!!! i was stoked .. DH rung to tell me there was fluff , and he ripped in to it .. he was excited and fell in love with the woddle bots ..
lol he was so proud .. as soon as gabs and i got home , he said "we should change her nappy " then went and got a woddle bot and put it on her :lol: it was soooo cute , ovboiusly missed his girl and his secret fix of fluff ;)

amongst all of this Nixon (32 mths) has regressed a bit with TT :( he freaked out about he toilets at camping , and then got ferried around to my mums house and then my PIL's house with no real routine ... so there have been accidents ... i feel awful .. hes hung on to a poo for 2 days now ... his belly is so bloated too :( so its back to nappies for a bit ..

i am looking for training pants , atm i have the bright bot ones , and they are good but not that good kwim .. might try some mcn ones .. i had brought 12 ages ago from cloth'd up but they were not the best fit on nix .. so i will have to try some other brands ...

Oh Sami - I usually leave the nappies on for about 2 - 3 hours, depending on what it is, and what bub its on. She's a medium wetter, so can leave ones on her for longer than him - he's a pretty heavy wetter. I just got rid of all my ittis (bar one or two!) because he would just out pee them in about an hour and a half.

I'd just change every 2 hours or whatever to build up your absorbency of the nappies and to see how much a wetter he is!

Morning Ladies

SamiH - I change my DS every 2-3hours unless he's pooped or heavily wet. Of course I check him though and change him if necessary. DS only get's nappy rash once in a blue moon and it's only very minor (except if he's sick) so I don't think 2-3hrs is too long at all. If he's going down for a sleep I like to change him beforehand just because you never know how long they'll sleep for or how much they'll wee in that time.

Lea - I'm so glad to hear about Gabs progress with sleep school! Hooray! My nephew had to go to sleep school around her age also and came out a completely different baby. Im glad it worked for you, you must be so relieved. Give Nixon time, he will fall back into his routine soon, just a bit of a bump in the road.

Arimeh - boohoo for the IL's hey! Happy you had a great day regardless :) Mine live 3hrs away, so I don't have to see them too often - but often enough that I can't stand them.

We had a wonderful day yesterday. DH went to bed after breakfast (worked night shift) and slept until 5pm. DS slept for 4hrs until 4:30 also which meant I had the whole afternoon of peace and quiet! So I cleaned :rolleyes: We went for fish and chips on the strand (beach) and took DS for a play on the playground before coming home.

HI girls - i have no idea where to start as i have been gone for so long - so i am just going to jump right in lol!

Mel - i hear you! we had to spend the day with MIL too. At first we were to 'entertain ' at our place for lunch but i cracked it and so we just visited! :)
We are all sick here so wasnt a very productive day at all.

Sami - we change every 2hour with DS but DD sometimes will go 4 hours because she holds her wee now - so if i changed it earlier it would be dry - to be honest - she takes it off when it is wet ! i have found one too many BBh in the bin though! mmmmm

HOwever if i dont DS is going down for a sleep in cloth i will change regardless - i mean it is just another to wash even it is only had a smige of wee in it! :)

ANyhow hope all is well :)

I just check my boys to see if they need changing. Being toddies they go a bit longer between changes now. River obviously gets changed more regularly, I can usually smell him a mile away lol Same as PP, if their going for naps they get changed regardless. If I changed the toddies very 1-2hrs Id be washing more dry nappies than soiled ones.

Can I just say, Im loving Swaddlebee's! I forgot I had about 5 Clothd Up fitteds in med, a Ecobubs in med and 2 side snap Swaddlebee's in med in the cupboard so once discovered I got them out, washed them and they have now boosted my stash (sad that Riv is a medium already though :( ). The Swaddlebee's fit so well, Im very impressed.

I think Jett is reacting to the bumG inners (what fabric are they?) Seems like everytime he heads to kindy with them as his daycare nappies, he ends up with blisters and NR the next day (and they def change them enough). But if he spends a few days in just the Itti's he's fine.

jbabys nappy rash has almost completely gone, thanks to my itti bittis! I only have the 2 though...arghhh I soooo need to get some more, will have to go buy some more sposies today, said to the jman last night about needing more nappies, he was like, I thought you were using the cloth ones? and I said well, give me some more money so I can buy some more!!:p
I dont know whats in the other nappies the mum from mums group gave me, but I swear they made his rash worse, poor little man, I only had him in the one for about 45 mins, I dont think the outer cover is very breathable, oh well. also he looks like a starfish with them on, they are sooo bulky. I dont know, but it doesnt look like itd be very comfortable or good for his legs!

I just check Jack to see if he needs changing...he's not a big wetter at all so he can go a few hours at a time. We have never had a wee leak in any MCN, flat or sposie.

I just recieved my moo goo order :dance: I got the soothing cream, the ezcmer cream and lip balm. They sent me some wipe cream as a thank you...It smells so yummy I could eat it!!!!!!! just in time I might add as molars number 3 and 4 look like their about break through and we have bleeding ballybe's.

STILL waitng for our longies...:( one pair are being dip dyed from knows and knits. I cant wait to see what they look like :)
