Well I wasnt going to buy anything else until my stash has been used a few times over now to see what I really like, but one of the enablers on here has a special on today that had a Bubblebub AIO with Panda's on the tabs - and I have a Zander Panda - so I just HAD too - hopefully his Toodlebugz panda leg warmers will turn up soon and he can wear them together ---- so cute ;)

I hae a dumb question...if there is PUL in the cover..how can they wet through?? like Susie was in her prefold with a pul cover for 7 hours last night (yay to the long sleep!!) and no worries. if it gts too wet can the pul leak?

Gigi - Half the time I can't get my machine to work either :wall: I used a double needle to get 1 row of stitching in PUL, my machine doesn't like PUL one bit. Might try to get a new cheap one at tax time, but we do have a fair bit of debt to pay off. I did manage to get an AI2 snap in mama pad done though, still have to see how it goes and make extra boosters for it if it does work.

Sami - The person wanting the item will usually tell the hyena via PM the web address, their postal details and generally they pay via direct deposit when the hyena sends the info back after they have managed to win the item. Hope that makes sense ;)

Nappy news - There is a bucketfull waiting for DH's attention. They WILL get done tonight, he has no choice ;) Unless of course Leah decides she wants to come early. Been having lots of ouchy BH and had a TMI huge glob of EWCM this morning. But knowing me, prelabour lasts AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS and the CS will be done before any of this fruits into anything.

Thanks girls! Having a nice day so far, been really busy. Treated myself by staying up to 4am this morning cooking, enjoying the peace...was really nice!

MrsC - it can leak through wicking - the binding around the edges or the elastic, can wick the moisture. Can leak through leg gape, or back gap. When you wash the cover next put it in the dryer for bout 15 mins - this will reset the PUL if there are any tiny gaps in it - fuses the plastic back together iykwim.

Rhoda - sandmans are excellent - there is actually a boy one on Ebay at the moment - every week or so Michelle puts a couple up on ebay - they are the same price, but you get free postage that you dont get on the SHP site :) It is even a boyish pattern ;P

Maybe the wash did something to it?

We all went to the circus last night (photos on FB for those of you that have added me). It was absolutely fantastic. Best night out for ages, and Phoenix really enjoyed it too. :) Isn't it strange what excites us as parents.

has anyone tried cuddlybub covers? i saw they have a cute leopard print cover..but I'm a lil sceptical cause all their covers seem cheap compared with other companies

No MrsC never heard of them but i must agree Bambino Mio are my FAVOURITE covers whilst bubs is still small....though im liking the BBH covers as he grows.

Well we have had the worst day in nappy history. Being me i didn't wash yesterday hoping that the rain would of cleared wich of course it hadn't so im running low on nappies (well at least ones i like to use) so i washed this mornin and planned to hang on the clothes horse under cover until i needed them then just whack what i needed in the dryer as i went....but noooooo mother nature had different plans, she (thankfully) weighted until it had just started the spin cycle then cut the power to our house! yup no power ALL day so had to gently squeeze what water i could from the nappies then hang dripping onto the clothes horse and now have to use crappy nappys that have no obsorbancy and are just a pia (dont know what they are called but are like a pocket but you still have to 'pin' them grrr).....power has only just come back on so those that can go in the dryer are going and well they will just have to wait till next time for a sunning

On the up side no power meant no net wich gave me the strength to stay away from FL so yay there

you can get Motherease Rikki covers with
- pandas and rainforest critters on them
- african animals on them
et etc

PUL does "wick", get wet, if left too long.
how?
once all the absorbent material of a nappy, in your case the prefold, is 100% saturated, then the excess moisture has nowhere to go to be absorbed, so the PUL will get wet.

So if your dd lasts 7 hours in a prefold and PUL cover - that is amazing - she must either be a light wetter, or a light wetter overnight.

many people use fleece or wool overnight, the reason for it, is that once the absorbent material (the nappy) is 100% saturated, wool covers will absorb another 30% moisture (that is why many woollen covers are called SOAKERS cos they soak up liquid - but still stay waterproof, due to the lanolisation process).

fleecy covers don't soak up moisture like wool, but do breathe better than PUL.

but it's the kind of thing, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. if PUL is working for you overnight, and Madame is not getting rash from the FOE around her thighs - well, all power to you!

but it good to know the alternatives for
= when she starts wetting more
= when and if she reacts to wearing FOE for such a long time

Arimeh - i can sew (bibs, pinnies, liners, trifolds, boosters, flongies, soakers, bumjumpers, even two pocket nappies last year, small alterations, an easy tie tutu), WHEN i have access to working machines.

i had a look at those on line MrsC, i had not heard of them before.

they make double layer polar fleece covers (aplix or sidesnaps) and PUL covers (aplix or sidesnaps). they look fine to me, but you can't tell some things, (sewing, fit) until you try one on your bub.

price wise, you can get baby beehinds PUL covers for $12.

i don't know if this is a one woman WAHM, or a manufactured brand (e.g made in large commerical quantities). Sometimes people new to the market, price their product low too, to give time for the brand to get known.

some things you only find out by doing. i wouldn't order HEAPS of an unknown brand, but i don't think it would hurt to order one. Just measure your bub's rise and check with site that you are buying the right size for your bub. Tell them what you intend to have under the cover (bulky flats? trim prefolds?) to help them, help you.

If you really are partial to leopard, i have seen leopard covers in some other brands too. e/g berry plush and maybe Staccinator? not sure now, got a crying bilby, gotta run, can't think

thanks for the bug replies and heaps of info!!! I think the amount of absorbent fbric helped last nigh too. perfold 2x4x2 of bamboo with he,mp as the inner plus a booster of 2xhemp and 1xbamboo. will keep my eye on it though!
one more question...if u have fleece outer and pul inner on a cover would that make it better cause if it wicks through the pul there's the fleece to help?

Does anyone else here like Peapods?? I do. because we bought a few when I was PG and heard nothing but bad reviews about them (after we bought em) but we have had no issues with them or any leaks either!!! they work fine for us!!! Not bad for a $16 nappy! and they're a big size so last ages

i hope i like the cloth pads - AF is not here yet and DD is nearly 9mths :0 thought it would be back by now , so i just laybyd all the pads and got some longies for next winter .. i also got some longies for this winter in a seperat order !! ayayayay soo happy !!

um... I got my *last* lot of fluffy mail yesterday - three more Swaddlebees AIO pockets. The orange one is very, um... orange! Like safety gear orange! Glow in the dark raj neesh dayglo orange. But my mum loves it, she's obsessed with all things orange.
Also, sent a long and hopefully not too emotional email to NN about my sad experiences with Bum Genius nappy elastic, and how I'm so disappointed because now I'm having to replace half my stash less than 12 months after buying them. All because they've got shoddy elastic and I can't find a receipt... (and I do like to get more fluffy mail :redface: )

I have been checking out loads of sites to buy nappies to sample and been reading your WOTBs and I see/read so many cute and snazzy prints and colours but I am scared of what I can't see IRL so I have just been ordering white everything but feel really boring. Do people buy nappies in themes or colours or how do you select your nappies so that you don't have a big mish of colours and designs? (Or maybe you do and like it like that?) The main thing is that I have a DD another as yet unknown sex bub on the way and have been buying OSFA, and want to cover myself in case bub is a boy!

Look to see what the people who make fleece covers online, use to line their covers with - that will direct you. As far as i've noticed, they use stay dry fabrics like microfleece.

But many makers put a hidden layer of PUL in their pockets and aio's. inbetween the outer (fleece for example) and the inner (microfleece).

RENSTAR - the thing with any nappy that gets bad reviews, there will be some other babies for whom, the said bad nappy DOES work and does suit. reviews are useful but not 100% conclusive - as we all have bubs with different body shapes etc. If peapods work for you, that's great, stick with them. It's wonderful, if the type that suits YOUR bub, are cheap and easy to buy. I had a bub with a shape that meant i had to hyena most of her nappies, it was not fun, they were so damm hard to get.

Charmlea - we use the DWINKS, they are great - actually STOPS miss bilby squeezing the contents everywhere.

Sandmans didn't work on bilby (wing droop), but SHP is awesome to deal with, bought other excellent things there and Michelle is a great source of knowledge esp about bubs with excma. Very ethical person too.

Katie Rabbit - i liked to buy plain aio and pockets (to match clothing without clashing) and buy printed fitteds. I chose nappy colours to go with my DD's other clothing.

look up ozclothnappies and click on the IN REAL LIFE MCN SHOPS link, find out what IS near you. Plus other ways to see mcn in real life
- go to the annual babies, preg and something expos, held in most states
- join ozclothnappies and nappycino and go to meetups
- visit IRL stores, as above
- find out which sites have consultants in your city e.g baby beehinds, cushie tushies, nurturenappies, ozbabytrends, baby blossom, greenkids

polar fleece cant really wick as its polyester.....so its a stay dry fabric.

Some WAHM's do offer cheaper prices on their products as they are not a 'brand name' and havent gotten to **** factor statis as yet lol. its takes years for people to establish themselves, especially when you have to compete with alot of overseas made big name companies

Im not a fan of PUL....it seems to cook my babies bums and they end up red raw :(

Katie - I got my stash built up by buying lots of good workhorse nappies - so they aren't pretty. Its only now that I am getting some special ones (even though the GF's dont' fit! but have talked to Nikki and she is going to put an extra snap on them for us - woohoo!)

I'm also getting customs done from bundles of buns - I was emailing her last night and she is going to make a custom fit one for DS because of his problem with wing droop as well. I have a feeling he will be in nappies forever!!! :rolleyes:

Katie - It wasn't until we found out the sex at the ultrasound for DD3 that I started buying much pink. I have a lot of blue and unisex patterns and since we went NB nappy shopping throughout my pg we bought some pink and some unisex. We also had a lot of unisex clothing and have bought more pink clothing. Being our last baby I found it has helped me to grieve the fact that I will never have a son to go all out on the girly things.

CM - I was never this bad with Em and didn't get SPD with Sarah. It has gotten progressively worse with each baby, hence no more babies. Sounds like the snap may just be not quite as hard pressed as it should have been and the little pin that holds it together didn't get pressed down fully, so it might go in sometimes and not others. I have a few snaps that I have done that didn't go down properly when I had the press on a table. It is on the floor now and I can put all my weight on it to get the nicely pressed.

Lea - I think you will like the pads. They are much more comfy that the ones you have to buy all the time. I find I don't sweat as much with cloth pads.

Ren - my peapods are not as bad now that I have put extra snaps on them. When the snaps are in the middle we had wing droop issues, but the extra snaps have fixed that. I think the main reason for the bad reviews is the fact that for skinny babies there aren't enough snaps to hold the wings up. The nappy itself is good, and I love the bamboo boosters, I buy them seperately for other pockets, they just needed a couple of extra snaps to work really well on Em.

Mel - try skipping a snap when you do it up if it is a front snapper. So do the 1st one up, then miss one and then do the second one up if that makes sense. It is the only way the Baby Kanga works for us. Hence it being one of the 'stuff it if I am desperate' nappies.

Maz - Hope nothing too serious hun :hug: Em's feet roll in so we have to keep an eye on that and use shoes as much as possible but until she gets a bit older we can't do anything because it may correct itself.

AFM - DH washed nappies last night. I am supposed to hang them up today. I will fairly soon, unless FIL wants to hang them on the line for some sun. I wonder if they got unsnapped and unstuffed :think: hmmm. I did forget to tell him to put the IF in a lingere bag too :wall:

Ali - it is a front snapping nappy but its snaps are vertical - not horizontal - so its difficult to skip a snap because there is only one on top and one on the bottom IYKWIM? If I make the bottom one out to the side more, I'd get leg gape.

But its ok, she's going to put on an extra snap. All is well.

I like the sewn in better but lots like the snap in.
The sewn ins have boosting sew into the shell as well as a booster that is sewn at one end on top of the shell.
The snaps ins are just like any other AI2

Teru, I think less leg gape with sewn in, but faster dry with snap in. JMO and I may be wrong but that seems to be my exp. Plus you can just but more boost for the snap ins.

The pyhsio was ment to be here 2 months ago :o but she forgot :rolleyes:. She said that M's legs look worse due to his left leg having weaker muscle toneage and making his knee sit back more.....so more climbing, dancing, running and being a doop like he is and the muscle will strength..but atleast he doesnt need stints to help correct his legs ..... ah the joys of CP

ALi - the foot rolling thing...we swapped our shoes over..eg left foot wore the right shoe and the right foot wore the left shoe...worked for us and the pyhsio cant get over how well

IB's....i like both...and i think it depends how big your kid is for the fitting...M is a big boy so both fit him well but i can see how you would get gappage would happen on a slimmer kido

Hi girls, just a quick reply as I don't have much time to post.

Teruteru - I'm also a fan of the sewn-in itti's. I have both, equal amounts of each, but I definitely use the sewn-ins more often. 1) I find them faster to get on DS as I'm not trying to make sure the trifold is straight and folded properly 2) DF finds them easier and changes nappies more often if they're easier to use and 3) They seem to last longer absorbency wise but I don't know if that's just my DS or what.


Oh and less mucking around at laundry time pulling them apart and putting them back together.

hey everyone. quick question
how long can you leave them dry paled before you wash them
as we are only converting slowly we dont go through a load of nappies a day and hubby doesnt like em washing them with clothes towels etc as DD has very strong smelling wee.

so sometimes tehy are left for 2 days is this ok?
