How many do other people have?? Is 80 what I will need for 2? Just having a freak out here!

i had a basket (on the nappy bookshelf) labelled NIGHT NAPPIES, so dh knew to look in THAT basket, for a night nappy. Like i would have the night aio's, pockets sitting there, and any fitted night nappies, sitting inside a cover, so he didn't have to go look for covers, or work out which ones were fitteds. just an idea.

good comebacks! i wonder how many will ignore you and STILL give you packs of sposies and sposie wipes/lotions etc for baby gifts? i remember people telling me, "you will be begging for sposies after a week of washing cloth nappies" - oh yeh? All their negativity is based on old style nappies. the old way of washing them (which does sound very hard work (heavy) and dangerous (drowning risk).

let people know what you're after, at least you have plenty of time to look, choose and buy. maybe set up a baby register at a online mcn store, so your friends/rellies coudl get you stuff of your choosing?
i would go for a simple workhorse option, like bamboo prefolds and leg gusset covers (for beginning stage), to accomodate tiny pooing and weeing machines! i'm sure you will given the cute stuff.

i saw cushie tushies bamboo terry (i think) trifolds the other day, very noice. very pliable (my friend bought a few). and cushie tushie cloth wipes, made out of bamboo velour. so soft!
ALioops - yes, nice to have a mcn real life store in reasonable location (to me) now - just when bilby is tt;d! LOL.

KATIE RABBIT - the number you have in your stash can depend on a few things too.
Like if both your kids have different body shapes, you might need MORE.
you can cut down the number by buying quick dry styles (e.g pockets and ai2's and flats).
the number may be "padded out" with flats, prefolds etc. (workhorses, not glam but do the job).
children wee and poop at different rates. my child pooped at least ten times a day when nb, other people report their nbs pooping once a week! things like that, greatly vary, how many nappies you end up needing.
how long your child is in nappies for
the weight range, of your child, whilst in nappies.
whether you use the ones you first bought, or find those unhelpful and go buy different types. (other closures for example).

80 is including my so-far unused NB stash. I was every second day or so. DD1 is in sleep nappies only and DD2 is FT in nappies, and of course in a couple of weeks DD3 will be in FT nappies. Most of mine have been bought gradually, with 1 bulk pack in the mix.:
Sam - I am going to have to do something, he either never fills the normal nappy bag, just picks it up, or completely forgets it when I have filled it for him. I was keeping a Bum G in the pocket on the pram, but the elastic died. So a couple of OSFM are going in the seat pockets in my car with a wipe in each of them. We are bound to use them with a NB!!
Rhy - I am sure you will be loaned or given enough, if not more than enough to keep your head above water with all the washing. With triplets that is so much better than spending $6000 on sposies hey ;) As Leah outgrows stuff I will pop it all in a box and send it up. My NB stash isn't huge, coz we have mostly OSFM, but there is about 25 NB/Small in my suitcase for hospital. 30 nappies per NB should give you 10 per day per baby and a couple of days drying time if you wash daily. So for 2 day washing I reckon you need up to 60 each for them while they are tiny which means NB nappies will be 180 plus what DS is using. So what you dont have in NB size get in OSFM. You might be able to do 30 NB each (so 90 NB) and the rest OSFM and terry flats for spares (Terry flats might be a LOT of work with 3 NBs so do as much MCN as you can) And if you decide to have a box of sposies for the nightmare times when nothing can get done then no one will think any less of you ;) Gee I hope that lot makes sense, that is what I would probably do if I was you anyway.
I stuck a load of nappies in the machine this morning (FIL helped, he carried them to the laundry and reched the things I couldn't) so I know they all got pulled apart this time. Will get DH to hang them out when he gets home this arvo. Also figured out that the smaller nappy bucket (15L one) fits next to the toilet so pooey nappies that have been LSed can go straight in there and we have the 2 bigger buckets out near the change table for wet nappies. Lets see if the system continues to work or if someone is too lazy to do it properly.

Quick questions
Zander has had some paracetomol yesterday for a cold and suspected teething - I have read it stains nappies when it comes out the other end SOOOOO how long should I watch out for - just the next poo or a couple of days??? Thanks in advance ;)
It does feel great - I have now started showing people the nappies (carrying my two almost lost ittis in my handbag as a quick reference!!) and that does change their mind slightly (ever so slightly!). DP thinks I will get over the washing fairly quickly but otherwise he is happy with the cloth choice... I am just so stubborn that even if I do feel like it is too hard I will continue with cloth just so that can't say I told you so :rofl::
It might be rude of us but I asked to my sisters and best friend who are organising a shower for me to put something on the invite about me using cloth... I know some who will give gifts will still ignore it... how do I resist the temptation of having sposies at the house? I thought I would either stash them at someone else's house or send them to a charity because I really really really want cloth to work and I know me... I will stick to cloth because it is what I have... but if I had an alternate... well I can't say I would stick with cloth. Hopefully I have given my cloth speech to enough people that if they choose to give us a gift it isn't sposies:

Tk, in terms of resisting the sposie temptation, my advice is don't, if you need to use them. I think of it like fast food, my ideal is a home cooked meal usually, but in the time after having bub, we bought a lot of takeaway, or meals others had cooked for us. It would be silly of me, if I was already struggling on a bad day, to be cooking a dinner when there was an option that could make things easier on me. I kind of feel the same with cloth - if, at the start, you fall behind, don't make things hard for yourself just to make a point, see how you go. I wanted #2 to be only solely in cloth, and ended up using sposies here and there for quite awhile while I recovered from the birth.
You might find cloth so easy that there's no temptation to use sposies at all, and you can sell them on ebay and buy a nappy, or give them away at another baby shower! But if you do struggle, don't beat yourself up for using sposies!

ok, just zipping up the suitcases on the way to the airport shortly. Have smuggled in 4 swaddlebees AIO pockets with hemp inserts, a HH, a BumG and a BP + extra insert. Pot of gold maz-a-licious cover is already packed. HH keyring is on the carry-on bag. Should I squeeze in an extra something?? Do I really need more than one pair of pants for 5 weeks?
