Spock has the most insane worst nappy rash ever =( the gp put her on ABs for it, but all that did was make her have disgusting horrible poos that just burned her bum more and made it even worse. we are talking red raw...and it bleeds =*(. I make sure I change her nappy frequently, and I am squirting it every nappy change with BM. anything else I can do?
would the BBH (pockets) be better on her bum than the dragonfly magik? sorry I dont know what the material is...but i know they are different. what material would be nicer for her? or wont it really matter?

Poor little miss! If you can, let her go nappy free as much as possible.

yea she gets atleast an hr a day napy free.
it is getting better but still so sore. i dont know how it got tgis bad...one day she was fine and then next was a little red and then bam!!
was at the same time she was doing hrly wake ups snd not settling at all..maybe its a byproduct of sonething else? i dont know. i just know im sure her little bum is hurting =(

Is she teething tt40? I was going to suggest nappy free too. Could also try salt baths and no soap for a while. And perhaps a hot stip wash and sun of nappies if you haven't for a while, there may be some bacteria there making it harder for her to heal iykwim? Poor lil poppet hope she's all cleared up quickly.

im guessing she is HSM ..cause we ruled everything else out...
good tip re the nappies. i always sun to dry (and out here it is pure hot burning sun) but havent hot washed (ever i dont think?) i might do that just to be sure. in terms of powder what should i use? normal amount or none or something different? (for the hot wash)

I wonder if a baby biotic would help with the runny poos? Bio Ceuticals make a great powdered one it can be put on your nipples when BFing or in a bottle.

DD had a crack in her birthmark which is in her nappy area and it got a staph infection requiring anti b's which like your DD gave her really runny poos and a sore tummy. She also had nappy rash. The paediatrician gave me a recipe for her baths from the specialist nurses at Melbourne RCH to help with the infection and to prevent any further infection. Its 1 kg of pool salt (cheap as chips $10 for 20kg) to 100 lt water plus 125 ml bleach( we pass on this bit). also using saline (the stuff from the chemist for cleaning contact lenses) to wash DDs nappy area instead of using wipes or plain water helps to reduce the risk of infection from nappy rash.

Just a thought- I wonder if cool chamomile tea would sooth her rash...

If you think it would be a good idea to cover the worst part of the rash to protect it from wee and poo the ultimate dressing to use is called Mepilex(we use mepilex border lite).It was also recommended by RCH. Its a moist dressing that helps healing and protects the skin from irritation. Our chemist stocks it but I'm told that not all do but would probably be able to order it it for you.
I hope you find something that works to sooth Spock's sore bottom.

Not much help, but whenever my ds is teething he gets runny poos and really bad nappy rash. Talking bleeding blisters. Thank goodness though it did pass. But still get the acidic poos when he teeths. We just mainly try to prevent it from getting bad now. As soon as he poos we clean him. When there's a little redness I put sudocream and curash powder on, and it hasn't gotten as bad since. The worst is when sometimes you can't smell when he's pooed, and then we change his bum and don't know how long its been there. Hugs for you and bub, I know its horrible. We just tried to do nappy free time as much as we could as that worked best.

We had vile nappy rash when she had a few days in disposables (never ever ever again) to the point she screamed when she went into the bath. Diluted chamomile tea really helped soothe the pain

I reckon the DFMs might be better than the BBHs as BBHs are suedecloth and DFMs are fleece.

DD2 has had the worst rash and I had to go to sposies to shift it. I also strip washed and rinsed with teatree oil in the water to get rid of any lurking nasties and I put a few drops on the wipe when I changed her. I put all her creams in the fridge too.

putting her in sposies isnt an option for me...

Chamomile tea can stain! Beware! Canesten rinse can help too. And I swear by zinc based barrier cream with sacrificial micro fleece liners. Oh, and corn flour! We have ours in a sugar shaker on the change table. Apply over the top of the cream.

Speaking of zinc creams... Does anyone know the best (if any!) way to get it out of cloth nappies? Even just a little bit? All those two dozen bambooty nappies I got free the other week are pretty much covered in it! I'm thinking they're kinda stuffed and ill end up ditching them. But if I can get at least most of the zinc cream out and associated staining ill look at getting new elastics put in and they should be good to go. I dont really want to throw away coz the underside boosters are fine and so is the PUL but right now I'm thinking its just not worth the extra work.

I scrubbed mine with laundry soap and a toothbrush. Then did a wash with extra rinse. Made the microfleece fluffy, but it got the cream out.

oh powder... I don't powder her, should I? like make it a normal thing to powder her?

I just made up a bunch of cloth wipes and wet them with salt water and a few drops of teatree, will just use them for a bit and FX we get it cleared up!! then never again! going to then ask for ways to prevent it =P

HSM, sunlight soap and a tooth/soft nail brush is the only way I'm aware of.

Sorry T, I promise wasn't suggesting sposies for you. This lazy bum only does part time these days.

I know Kim, the thought did cross my mind ages ago, and I feel a bit self concious when I change her in public because people just assume its the MCN that are making her so sore and I'm being terrible to her by not putting her in sposies, even though sposie bums have nappy rash too. I've just make a decision from the start that I wouldn't use them at all.

Just had a thought TT40. Have you tried putting in microfleece or raw silk liners? That might help to separate the wet nappy from her skin. I couldn't be bothered myself & like Kim, just switched to sposies for clearing up rashes. I think the reason sposies help is the wetness of MCN's keeps it irritated whereas, the sposies have that dryness layer. Sposies won't prevent rashes though - I believe it's the no 2's that do that, it was in my DD's case anyway. DTMS?
