micro fleece or raw silk would be the way to go then. I think I might have some micro fleece (and my plan is to clean out my fabric box today - good timing). If I do I'm happy to pop it in the post for you.

Oh lovely! Sure if you do happen across it I would love some.
Interestingly I've not heard of raw silk as a liner.
Mum can you imagine raw silk on your bum!
We are back in cloth for day, I'm keeping her in sposies over night for a bit longer until her sores are healed completely.
WORB ~ red BBH OSFM.
how is she going TT40?
No more open sores! Just indented skin, like bad scars, but I'm confident it will get better and the skin will fade and fx not be cavities like they are now
Oh fantastic, T! You can even try some vitamin E on her skin to help it heal as well.
DD2 has almost completely recovered from her nappy rash too. BBH with wool covers were da bomb. I love my wool covers. So much I had to go and order a few small sized ones for the new bub. ;) I wish I could find their overalls as well - I have longies for DD2 (but they're a bit too long and need to be rolled up), but overalls would almost be more convenient because I wouldn't have to worry about not tucking things in.
WOHB: Not sure (I'm at work), but probably her Cushie Tushies with wool cover
Well yesterday I was just admiring DD's rash free bum and then an hour later she had a dirty nappy and the rash was back with extra fury. Changing her nappy was so traumatic for both of us, she was crying her eyes out and bucking to avoid me touching her sore little bottom :(
Jen what's so bees knees about wool covers?
Wool breathes better and you can reuse the cover over and over (unless it gets dirty) because it isn't wet after wearing. I use one at night, let that air, and another during the day.
I can't stand the smell of wool covers. I love fleece covers, they get a bit stinky too, but still quite breathable.
I see, cool!
I just ordered two baby behind night nappies for DD as her Bambooty night nappies are on the brink... No amount of strip washing seems to fix the absorbency issues we have and they look pretty tatty. Also picked up a small IttiBitti Boo night nappy for the new bub.
Really, LM? I did lanolise mine, but no discernible smell unless I've just washed them.
Found out we're having another girl today so all of my pink, flowery nappies will do just fine!
WOHB: Maz NN with Disana wool cover
Oh wonderful! I'm sort of hoping our number two is another girl as we have so many pretty things, nappies included, that I am dying to use again.
I don't have many pink, flowery nappies, but the ones i do have DS has worn anyway if they are on top of the basket.
DS is growing out of his mediums and so i think i will do a strip wash and then put them all away for awhile. Luckily i hadn't started selling them off!
I am very much looking forward to the weather warming up. I am over having washing drying all over the loungeroom, and a bigger pile in the laundry waiting to be washed. Nappies get priority in the washing, but they also smell so much better after a good airing in the sun and wind.
Yay J13! Congratulations! Hearing that makes me want another girl! I actually can't remember the wool smell, we got rid of all our woolly covers, but I remember disliking it, and DH practically dying every time he was in the same room as one  The fleece covers also smell, but it's slightly less intense.
I miss my Hills Hoist. I've got a foldout double line but it's just not as good. (And a newly landscaped stunning backyard!) but I really loved standing at my hills hoist with the kids running around underneath it.
WOSB: Bubblebubs pink pigs AIO.
I've just consulted my stash and it is pretty girly once I get to the large and OSFM nappies. The little ones are mostly plain pastel colours like lemon, mint and white.
Oops didnt realise DD's baby beehind night nappies needed a cover... Until 1am when she woke up very upset and was soaked through!
Lol LL, first time I used a MCN to change a friend's bub I didn't realise it needed a cover. D'oh!
WOHB: BBH NN with wool cover ;)
Re stiff inserts, I use those peg hangers (looks like an octopus, with 2 pegs hanging from each leg) from Ikea, and hand nappies under the eaves in bad weather. They take ages to dry - sometimes 3 days, if it's really damp - but being in the open air gives them a bit of movement as they fry that seems to stop them from being nearly as stiff. Mine only get stiff if I hang them inside.
Having them on the octopuses also means I can bring them in and out, or in from the rain, really quickly and efficiently.
We don't even have a dryer, so that's not an option.
im not liking Spocks nn... she has bbh nn, are all nn so big and bulky? what are other brands like?
she has only recently gone back in them at night after using sposies for her rash. so obviously major difference between nn and sposies, but she seems so much more unsettled at night now and uncomfortable. .
WORB ~ black dfm with purple pentagram embroidery
I use sustainable hemp products sandman nappies with a wool cover. Smaller than my bbh, but still a lot bigger than disposables. But I reckon ds would outwee disposables of a night.
As far as I've found they're all pretty bulky. I have a sandmans too and if a bbb is bulkier, then I'm never going there lol.
Genesa Forge make the most awesome nns. Very trim. Spewing I sold them after DS.
BBH NNs are my bulkiest but they're also the most absorbent in my stash. DD2 sleeps on her tummy so the bulkiness doesn't seem to bother her. She also often sleeps for longer than 12 hrs so I think she needs it. I haven't tried GF.
WOHB: pink pea pods
I've had genesa forge nn and they didn't work for us, which from my understanding is pretty unusual. As you know, I've got lots of her "normal" nappies and they're fantastic.
I have one Billy and the Bow Wow night nappy and I love that. They do need covers, and are a bit bulkier than GF nn, but touch wood, no leaks yet.
Help wanted please mammas!
My itti bittis are leaking. They only last 2 hours at the most before we get leaks out the top and often on the right side on her inner thigh. DD is drinking more water too. I've had to change DD's clothes twice already today and at this rate she'll be nude by this time tomorrow cause we'll run out of clothes.
I've done a strip wash, tried putting them on tighter, wondered if we need the next size up for aio's and sio's but its happening today with the tutto's too.
How do you know it's time to upsize?
I wonder if I'm putting them on wrong??
Any suggestions or ideas welcomed.
TIA
I didn't get much longevity out of ittis after the first few months - basically once DD3 started having larger increases of fluid they were very quick to leak but I think that's because she's a bit of a "power" wee'er ;-) I think if you're doing the snaps up firmly around her legs, but not so tight that they dig in and leave marks then you're doing the right thing. Maybe she's just grown out of them in terms of shape, rather than size ITMS.
Given what you've said about the tuttos though maybe it is that she is just weeing too quickly for the absorbency rate of the ittis?
I agree with lulu, we too found they leaked all the time. It was like ds was holding on a bit, then would just do a big wee and they couldn't hold it. So we stopped using itti bitties.
we were quick to realise itti bittis wouldn't worrk for us. I think I sold them after a week, Spock was just the wrong shape
I've never had any problems with ittis but I don't think DD is a very big wee-er. Different nappies just seem to suit different kids. The worst leaks I've had we're with close popins but I've heard others rave about them.
You can buy extra boosters for the ittis or extra sets of liners and keep the same shell on but it might not solve your problem
DD is a medium to big wetter and Itti Bittis are one of my favourite nappies. But they tend to need strip washing more than my others for some reason.
Re night nappies - we had some Bambooty easy nights and they aren't too bulky at all, not compared to BBH. But I did need to add an extra booster.
I've been needing to add a booster to all of our Grovias during the day, because otherwise he just wets through them too quickly. FL you can usually tell if the leak is from 'gaps in the cover' vs 'over-full and can't absorb any more liquid' if you check whether or not the absorbent fabrics at the back of the nappy are wet too. If so, there just isn't enough fabric to hold all the wee. If you feel the covers fit ok, just add a booster.
I made a dozen or so hemp fleece boosters, with 4 layers of fabric, but not full length, and for now they make all the difference, and we get through the day with 5 or 6 nappies, and one pair of trousers again!
The other cause of leaks (I think) is a theory I've been developing for a while, and it's to do with temperature of nappy fabric vs temperature of wee. A cold, fresh nappy seems to absorb more slowly than a warmed to body temp nappy. So often our leaks happen when we've just barely put the nappy on, and he does a wee straight away (Usually just as we're meant to be going out and are in a rush!) It then just runs over the fabric and out the cover before it can be absorbed. Anyone else notice this?
WOHB: Grovia hybrid in the new colour of tangerine!
Hmm... Just changed DD's nappy, it was quite wet and smelled of ammonia? I noticed the nappy bin smells strongly of ammonia if I don't empty and wash every second day but I've never smelled it while still on her before. Her bum was red too, but no rash so to speak.
What do you thinks happening Ladylove? Is your DD perhaps a bit dehydrated? Could it be the food that she's having?
Thanks all for info on heavy wetting. I've been thinking it over. I've started putting the extra boosters that I have in the nappies and its helping. I'm getting maybe 3 hours out of a nappy now. I'm also in the process of strip washing again but on 60 degrees. Time to but some more boosters!
Another quick question...
What's more absorbent please ... Microfibre it bamboo?
The mini bamboo soakers are out of stock and I haven't used microfibre before.
TIA
Hmm I'm not sure it has anything to do with dehydration? It was a wet heavy nappy.
Not sure which inserts would be more absorbent.
Bamboo is far far far more absorbent than microfiber, but absorbs more slowly than the microfibre does, but a combination of both works best here because microfibre absorbs very quickly taking the wee away from her skin, and then the bamboo starts absorbing keeping it all in and preventing leaks ITMS. Most of DD3's nappies now are bamboo with a microfibre topper of some kind.
Ladylove, I know exactly what you mean with the ammonia wee and redness that isn't a rash. DS (11 months now) gets that in bouts, and it seems to be associated with teething or sickness. A few weeks of this resulted in the deterioration of so many of our nappies when he was about 5 months. We got through another big bout at 7 months, too.
Watch out for that redness, it is effectively a light acid burn, and if it keeps going, can result in layers of skin peeling off (like in bad sunburn.) It also is prone to blistering, for us the skin where the elastic sat was where this happened. I think it's because the elastic made the skin in strong contact with the acid wee. We use lots and lots of Magic Stick but it didn't seem to have any real protective effect. You might have a better MCN friendly balm, or be prepared to use the zinc-based creams. Frequent nappy changes made sense to us.
Re the nappies, consider rinsing them immediately, or wetpailing to dilute the wee, and/or washing every day instead of every second day. People suggested bicarb soda in the nappy bucket, but I think I would have needed heaps (like cupfuls) to have made a difference. Certainly a generous sprinkle didn't make a difference.
On the plus side, inhaling a lungful of ammonia fumes seemed to clear up a cold I had!
Thanks Pholi :) I read somewhere else that it could also be urine residue in the nappies so I might have to strip wash. My problem is we can't get hot water into our washing machine, the pipe always locks if we try and only cold comes out. But I've soaked in hot water in the laundry trough before, with a bit of eucalyptus oil, then washed in cold in a long cycle then rinsed lots.
ladylove we have frequent ammonia wees, esp after a night in the same nappy, it is coinciding with teething symptoms here. I can smell it when i walk into the bedroom at night!!! DD gets a red bum but it is very temporary and Magic Stick clears it usually.
It nearly knocks you out- not surprised Pholi it cleared your cold lol
My sisters bub has it too ( in sposies).
My nappies smell normal after a wash tho, I rinse and dry pail, then wash in warm water.
What is this Magic Stick? I use MooGoo, but would like an alternative.
