We have been in cloth here for 13 months. Not a single disposable....until tonight. On and off for a couple of months DS has had mild nappy rash. Well, it doesn't really look like a rash. It starts off as a red dot (like a pimple) and turns into an ulcer like sore. He's been on antibiotics, I've tried all kinds of creams. The antibiotics clear it up, but he can't be on them constantly and it just starts all over again when he finishes the course. It had been really good for the last week and yesterday morning it was like a raised rash all of a sudden and really bothering him. Apart from overnight, he's rarely in a nappy for more than 2 hours and is crawling around with a bare bot during the day as much as possible.
I didn't know what else to try so I went out and bought some disposables this afternoon in the hope that they might help (that's what everyone keeps telling me to do and it seems to be the only thing I haven't tried)
Has anyone else had a stubborn rash? How did you manage to clear it up? Did using disposables help?
Could it be eczema (doesn't sound like the right type of rash though)? Or maybe thrush? Have you tried an anti fungal cream? Thrush usually starts as a spotty rash. Eczema does keep returning like that, but isn't usually spotty...

Subbing... my DS has a bit of this too and I'm curious as to what others have done to clear it up.
Unfortunately when we went on holiday and he was in disposables, it completely cleared up so I think maybe it's a reaction to some of the fabrics (particularly in the itti bitti's).
He's close to starting TTing so I probably won't do much about it (they don't seem to bother him much).
Nettie - Have you tried a fleece liner with the itti's? I use a liner, coz I don't think there inner fabric is thick enough to draw the wee away properly. Maybe thats just me though?
Maybe you could try a strip wash & see if that helps?
I use a liner on the night nappies, but it's much messier if he does #2's, so I avoid putting them in the others But I will give that a go! I do a strip wash every now and then, but it can be hard to find the time (I put the nappies on to wash as I head to bed at night and hang them out before work in the morning).
just jumping on this thread as fred has developed a really bad nappy rash and the dr said it is thrush. So rather than trash my mcn I am using disposables (bought my first packet ) and will strip wash my mcn and wash all of them in canasten rince as well. We are putting two creams onto her bot at each change, I know one is an anti fungal but I have no idea what the other one is...
