PP we use them part time here too, and my newborn will be in sposies for most of the time til s/he's a couple of months old, I can just forsee that now! Like Kim, we use sposies for overnight, daycare and when we are out all day. (Half-day trips I still use cloth, but hate the bulk of having to take a full day's worth of cloth, so often I will put her in a sposie if I know I'll need several changes for her).
I do find MCNs take up more of my time, plus when DH uses them he doesn't clean the pooey ones, so that job ALWAYS falls to me. (Though most of the nappy changes fall to me anyway, except for when he looks after her on weds while I'm at work).
I too would recommend part time use if you don't want to give them up completely - using them even just part time would still save you money and produce less waste than giving them up altogether.

NAK so could be a ramble...
I think sometimes it seems to complicate things.
When I'm not in a good place healthwise or mentally, there is more falling apart around me than just having to fold nappies kwim. But it's easy to say "if I didn't have to fold these nappies then I'd be able to do the dishes/iron/clean the bathroom" etc.
Today I've washed, pegged & folded 1 load of towels, 1 load of boys clothes, 1 load of DH & mine, Ruby's bedding & folded nappies washed yesterday.
Yesterday I only did a load of nappies because I couldn't be bothered doing anything else. I don't blame having to do washing all day today on nappies, rather my slack mood yesterday. The work I have from nappies is stuff all compared with everything else I need to do to keep my house going.
Maybe the nappies are a "whipping boy" because it's a chore that you choose to have because there is another option. Perhaps you need a break. I've had a few (been clothing it full time for over 2 years now) but after a few days and they are nicely folded and stored I tend to think it's not so bad afterall.
I can tell you that I don't miss that dreaded feeling of realizing there is only one nappy in the packet and having to go out at 9pm to buy some ;)
Just don't do anything rash like sell off everything till you're totally sure!

I don't think they complicate my life, in fact I think they have made things easier. DS no longer has a sore red bum, and I don't have to continually shop for disposables. I don't find the washing a big deal because I already do so much what's one extra load. However I know I spend way to much time on the net looking at them, but I'm resolving to stop this
-
lisa = wow i am doing 4 extra full loads a week!
lol
Raven
i think what i will do it sell all my nights, woolies, aio and ai2's and just keep my 20 BBB.
that way they can be used between the 2 kids, no confusion or grief,
just so sad *sob*

I think its less complicated as its easier to wash and dry cloth if you run out than have to run aaaaaaaaaaaall the way to the shop if I suddenly run out of sposies and spend god knows how much on buying them! With 2 in nappies (soon to be three) we were spending upwards of $100 a fortnight on sposies and I prob didnt change my toddlers as much as I could have..........Dh loves the cloth, loves using them (as long as he doesnt have to wash out pooey ones) and they are an easy quick wash on top of normal washing. But I only wash every second day (everyday for MCNs if the boys have a big pee/poop day) when I have a full load or two, so its all hung out and dried in one day. My hubby has been known to wash and hang out a load or two in his time though.
I say put it away for awhile but DONT sell until your sure because I would be royally po'ed if I sold my stash for a grumpy DH only to find we've shelled out more in sposies and have to go back to rebuy everything, possibly costing more $$$ than initially did.

awww hun , i hope things are ok ..
sometimes i get lazy and hate usuing cloth , esp when i have sposies in the house .. i use sposies on dd at night and nn on ds at night .. i do wish i didnt have to do mcn at night , but i hate having to buy nappies to throw them away ... but only 1 or 2 a night is better than stressing over leaks (and grumpy dh's)
my dh is all for cloth , but he has his days too and puts a sposie on the kids ..
I hope you can talk to your DH about how your feeling .. you spena alot of time at home with the kids you deserve to have a hobby or an outlet .. kiwm
in the cloth begging i was on mcn sites for ages(still am) DH used to get PO'd about it till he reaslised he spends the same if not more on cars and xbox ... so thats it ... we have our own intersts and neither of us can nag about it ..
i dont really have a life and having to do the washing gets me and the kids outside ...
most of the time they sit on the line for an extra day or 2 because i cant be bothered LOL ..
and we will still love you if you go half and half or even full time sposies ..
-
If good disposables were as cheap as cloth, then I might go sposies. We chose cloth because of the cost of disposables. Decent cheap sposies weren't about when we started using cloth. And I do hate the smell of disposables.
We use flushable liners often, that makes poop a bit easier to deal with. And sposies for night for Riv, because Si's nicked all his night naps.
A bit more complicated perhaps, but given that I'm a SAHM, it's not a big deal at all. Besides, if I didn't have to peg washing on the line, I might not get outside at all some days, so it's really good for me. :D

THanks girls
This isnt the first cloth argument we've had lol
I have decided to keep my BBB + IB and sell the rest. THat way i have 28 nappies that will fit both kids in case we run out of sposies.
But the rest are going . I think it is a half way compromise dont you lol/
I but i understand. I enjoy to an extend going out side to hang the nappies , and dd loves playing out there while i do it :)
humf. Thanks so much it is good to know that im not the only one and good to hear the other side of the coin too :)

Hugs PP. I can't really give you my outlook cause I'm heading back to cloth after a long break. I'm sure some days I'll regret it, but I know I want to do it for all of the right reasons. I will always have a few sposies around - cause you never know might happen - sickness, crap weather etc - but it's a decision I want to make.
I hope that giving up some nappies frees up your time and makes life better for you and your DH.
-
PP - honey you gotta do what is best for you babe!!
honestly.......whats worth more.......some stupid nappies or your relationship???
-
In a word - YES!!
The thrill has definitely gone for me over the last few months....I was actually going to do a post about it myself.
For me, it's the STINK. I can't handle the STINK!!!
I've stripwashed, tried varying levels and types of detergent, no detergent at all, different temp cycles, different types of cycles, washing more often etc etc etc. Nothing seems to work long term.
At the moment we've been using sposies a lot because of nappy rash (well, that's my excuse) and overnight because I find DS sleeps better in sposies. We had an incident a few weeks ago where he woke constantly overnight (something he hasn't done for months and months) I went in two or three times to check on him and it wasn't until the morning that I realised he'd done a huge poo but I couldn't smell it over the STINK of the soaked nappy. You can imagine how bad I felt :(
If it weren't for the guilt about the financial and environmental implications, I'd be back to sposies in a heartbeat.
Sad but true...
-
Yep - i tried them for a week. Spent $200 initially on setting up, was very eager to rid of the sposies and save some $$$$.....i found i was spending more time on 'caring' for the cloth nappies than what i would have liked. Too much work for me, far better things to do with my time....it was a nice thought whilst it lasted though, but its just not for me.
-
not for us, sposies in this house
-
lol i wish i spent $200.. i did a calculation and close to $1200! in this house oops
THanks girls
-
oh hun, if my DH wasn't at least 80% into cloth nappies, I don't know if I could have done it, and that was only with 1 in nappies!
Dh said to me the other day how much he liked cloth and that made me excited about them again ;)
 I could use 2-3 large AIO's.... will PM you
-
Pink Palace- I meant one extra load of washing per day, so I guess I'm doing 7 extra loads a week :o:lol: it does sound like a lot when I think about it, but I really don't mind.
So sad you're selling some of your stash, but at least your keeping some so you'll still have a lot of the benefits of cloth. I just love cloth because I'm really against all the nasties they put into disposables. However, like you I have spent a lot on cloth, DH holds his tongue (so far) because I think he knows it is best for DS. Anyway it is still going to be much cheaper than disposables in the long run so if DH does ever complain about it that will be my argument.
-
i wouldn't say using cloth complicates my life, but i would say having a baby does!
I would still use cloth, even if it was more expensive than disposables. Although not at the risk of my relationship or sanity. What good is an environmentally friendly, chemical free baby bum without a good relationship around it?! ;)
Hope all is ok and you find a solution. A gal's gotta do whatever it takes to survive, and if that means using disposables then i say do it.
-
lol lisa! thats sounds about right
Thanks girls.
Yep i told DH tonight that i am selling the nappies off (heaps have gone already! i cant believe how quick lol).. but didnt tell me i am keeping a few just for my own fluffiness lol
