Question Caring for teeny tiny toothies?

Jazz has two teeth (first one on the 4th, second one yesterday!), with another two looking like they're about to cut any second.

(yes, it has been hell for us both!)

So with these new teeth, just wondering how exactly I care for them? I assume you DON'T use toothpaste, but since she's eating solids I also assume they need to be brushed gently? With just a 'baby' toothbrush?

A dentist happen to be in my mothers group (a benefit of a small town ) and so I said to her that I brought DS his first toothbrush to open the conversation in a normal way not your a dentist what do I do way iykwim? anyway she said that let them chew on the toothbrush but wipe them with a facewasher cause once they chew the toothbrush it is pretty much useless. She did mention her bubba has a pigeon training set?! apparently it is shaped like a toothbrush but instead of bristles it has rubber nodules which stimulate the gums and stuff so I might just investigate that a bit further.

as njd said just give a toothbrush to chew on!! you can gently brush them, that way she will get used to been brushed, but dont push it!!
i use a fluoride free toothpaste, but DD is 2.4yrs, i only started with that at around 18 months as she wouldnt let us brush at all!!
once she can spit the paste out she can have normal kids toothpaste

My mum brought all the boys their first toothbrushes. The first 2 she brought these sets with 3 brushes, rubbery nodules on one, rubber 'bristles' on the other and a toothbrush.
With Ash she got the cutest little toothbrush, its a mini one, and the handle end is a big teething thing He LOVES chewing on it and playing with it.

I should add I used water until the boys were 2. I actually started brushing their teeth properly at about 1 year. To help with this I would let them brush mine while I did theirs.

If you are in an area where there is no flouride in the water, it is recommended that you use the kids toothpaste a little earlier. It's apparently good for them to swallow a bit as they get no other flouride. Brissy now has it in the water, I'm not sure if that extends to you? But in any case, the toothpaste is more for ongoing tooth strength, the cleaning is all in the mechanics - that is the action of the brush on the teeth.

I brush DS' teeth with just water. He loves it. The sooner you start the easier it'll be. Maybe you'll have an oddball like Aiden and Jazz will actually enjoy having her teeth brushed
