Hiccups reflux related? Any ideas on getting rid of them?
DS has reflux, he's currently on 1ml Zantac Syrup 3 times a day & it seems to be helping as he's not crying so much when he brings up a feed.
However lately he's getting the hiccups 3 or 4 times a day & they just won't go away. The poor bugger will just start to settle after a feed & he'll have a bit of what I'd call silent reflux & then the hiccups start, sometimes for up to 45mins, & the only way they seem to go is when he cracks it & starts crying. They don't seem to be normal hiccups, its almost like he's sucking in air sometimes when he hiccups & I can hear a bit of regurgitation.
Ive tried everything I can think of to get rid of them for him instead of him crying but nothing works. Is there anything I can try? Has anyone else experienced this with reflux?
yes, my DD still has reflux at nearly 2 and hiccups is a sign that her medication dosage needs adjusting. I would take him back to the doc to get the dosage increased!
Razzberry - Thanks SO much, thats incredibly handy to know. We were trialing the Zantac to see if it worked for DS & I was having trouble working out if it was or not & how to explain it to my GP.
I would either ask for the dosage of the Zantac to be checked as it needs to increase as they grow or go onto losec, ds was on Zantac and had his dose increased to the max before going onto the losec, he barely has any symptoms now, just coughing and sounding husky first thing in the morning.
yup, what Razzberry said! DS needs his dosage tweaked a little because he's still screamy. it usually ends up with ds doing *hiccup* *scream* *hiccup* *scream* til they go away
