Hi, I'm new here. I have twin girls, 1 month old, who have reflux (at least their physician told so, and they are treated now with simethicone and algicol). I heard that it helps a lot to elevate them, using Tucker sling and wedge. Did anyone here use it? Does it really help? There are 3 sizes, and the only one I found is 6-16 lbs. The question is - can I use it when the babies weight more than 16 lbs? What is he difference between these 3 sizes? And also - if you have any advice about how to help my babies, I'll be really grateful for any peace of information that can help!
I understand that keeping babies upright helps with reflux; any sling should help, as should those little chairs you can strap them into from birth. My DS much prefers his chair to his bed and would rather be carried, all things preferred. Liebling has only mild reflux; I find under-feeding helps him. He doesn't go hungry, but he has a 5-10 minute break in between his feed and that seems to stop the possetting and crying.
You can also put them in their car seats to sleep, a lot like this, there is an AR pillow that can do up to 28pounds, have a look around and see. I always put yellow pages under the cot and then books under the mattress and it made a wedge under it, you then put towels around them rolled up in a U shape so they don't fall down to the bottom.
With the meds, smithecone is not a reflux med and will not help one bit for reflux, only gas, and I have never heard of algicol, if you are still having problems in a week or two I would go back to the doctor and ask for something like zantac.
I hope that this is short lived and congrats on the birth of your babies.
Underfeeding him - just let him feed from one breast at a time, don't offer both sides. If he's still hungry after his burp a few minutes later then feed (sometimes he's just peckish so doesn't request more after this, but he woudl have had it if I'd have offered, but he feeds very regularly during the day as he's never fully tanked up except for at bedtime) - if I give him both sides in quick succession he will bring his feed back.
