Not sure if I have asked this but I was wondering if anyone knew of formula that helps Colic babies, or lessens their wind donw below. Our little man is 6 weeks and on Karicare Gold, MCHN recommened LF as his colic has been worse in the last week and we only started on Karicare 2 weeks ago, or it may just be a coincidence. I'm happy to give Soy or LF but he is a big drinker so it doesn't satisfy him. Can you put thickener in it? We have some drops as you may have read about in other posts, and they are helping alot. Just wanted to eliminate anything ealse. My hubby has a slight allergy to full cream milk, and even though I don't, I drink LF myself and Soy. Thanks for any advice
Lizzy, true lactose intolerance in babies is very, very rare, and LF formulas do not have all the nutrients required for brain development. I suggest that you consult a dietician who specialises in babies and food sensitivites before you consider switching to LF or soy formulas.
Wind and colic in babies is fairly common and does not necessarily mean there is a problem with dairy. Unfortunately any formula is harder for babies to digest than bm so it might be that until your DS is a bit bigger any formula might cause him to be windy and unsettled. Babies who do have food sensitivities nearly always do better on breastmilk - is this an option for you at all? If not, the first thing you might like to try is switching to a non-gold formula. Some babies have more trouble with the gold ones. If you still have an unsettled little man then I recommend a dietician.

Sorry you are having to deal with a colicky baby - I know how hard it can be. What we originally thought was colic actually turmed out to be a milk protein intolerance, which is actually quite common amongst babies on formula. We had our Monster on Nan HA, Karicare Gold and Karicare Goats milk and nothing helped. In the end our paediatrician had him tested and the results came back positive for milk protein intolerance (not to be confused with milk sugar aka lactose intolerance - which is very rare). He is now on an amino-based formula and couldn't be better.
I am not saying that your bub has the above, but the symptoms sound familiar and it may be something you want bear in mind if things do not improve? Feel free to PM me if you have any questions - I know I had a lot!
Colic babies would not be possible to calm him/her always. But, if you have plan on how to deal with this it will always be reassuring. Keep the baby clean, feed him/her and make him relax. Some parents may be successful in calming their kids by swaddling, taking them out for a walk, rocking back and forth, and by placing him next to a soothing soft sound. Crying for short period is acceptable. Parents should know how that colic occurs not because of their fault but is a normal condition.

I have seen Novalac for coliky babies but never tried it. I have heard through that your basic formulas are better so just the standard Karicare as opposed to the Gold version could work better. maybe worth a try? My paed told me the Gold versions often have unnecessary added ingredients that can be harsher on babies tummies.
My DS is lactose intolerant but his symptoms were persistant runny and mucousy poos.
