Losec keeps spitting it out help!!

    Hi everyone,

My little boy just got prescribed Losec on Monday for silent reflux. Our GP is trained in both homeopathics and conventional medicine. We had tried him on 2 homeopathic remedies for a few weeks but after not much change and with him hardly sleeping and still screaming we went back. The doctor said his throat was red raw poor wee fella.I told him I wanted the hard drugs! He also prescribed another homeopathic to go along with the Losec. We get it made into a liquid at the chemist and hes having 2.5ml once a day does that seem like a low dose??We tried giving it to him in a syringe but it was a disaster and he spit it all out.He does take things on a spoon(hes 3 and a half mths)so I measure it in the syringe and then pour it onto a spoon. It worked ok for the last few days but his screwed up face said it all! Then this morning disaster he seems to have figured out it tastes awful and keeps spitting it back out!I kept measuring out more so now I am worried I gave him too much and overdosed him!I was tring to remain calm but I am afraid he could sense my tension which made it worse.I then tried putting some in with some expressed breastmilk and giving it to him in a bottle as he does take a bottle but after a few minutes of coughing and spluttering I gave up!The funny thing was when I gave him the homeopathic remedy he loved it!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I am dreading tomorrow morning

Does he have a dummy? We always found that if they didnt have the chance to spit it out, they wouldn't. We are now at the stage that they both love medicine!

My DD is on zantac it tastes horrid so she was always spitting it out. I brough a dummy medicine thingy... Its really a bottle teat that looks like a dummy and a little measuring cup screws on.... But My DD woult take a blttle or dummy.

I now mix some EBM with it so it tastes a bit better and syringe it in... There is also bottle you can buy at toys r us... they have a syringe in the bottle so you feed and once bubs start sucking you push the syringe and they get their dose.

Putting it down the side of the cheek works also.

My babies have always been difficult with meds (spec zantac) but i found a few things over the many nights trying to give them that helped
they need to be right back , almost flat (difficult with a refluxer i know but try your best ) with there head still in your hand so the swollow reflux is triggered.
Needs to go in the cheek to side down .
Make sure the dropper is washed in boiled water, my bubs all hated the miltons taste.
You can ask the chemist to flavour it (some will, some wil not)
If your bub like a dummy those dummys that give the meds are great.
    Good luck

My son is also on losec and he cracks it all the time also and often spits some out ? how much.
I tend to shoot small amounts down back of his throat when screaming, sometimes he will cough and splutter, i also massage throat to encourage swallow and if any comes out i use syringe to try and push it back in as thinck takes a bit for it to get to far from mouth. I have found using a 1 ml syring works better.

2.5 mls is normal dose as is made up to 2mg in 1 ml.
