Eliminating milk from mum's diet for colic relief?

Hi there, I am wanting to hear from ladies who BF their colicky babies and tried eliminating dairy from their diet. Did you have any success? I have just started a dairy free experiment and 7 week bubs is already quieter and happier... I wonder if it is just coincidence?

    look forward to replies

I tried the same thing. Although, I just cut out morning dairy, and substitued with soy. I thought it was disgusting, but omg did it help! I only had to do this for the mornings, and only for about a month, and then he was right.

    Good luck!

Could just be coincidence as colic tends to come between 2-16 weeks of age and is usually worse around the 6-8 week mark. For most babies it last around 3 weeks or so, but sometimes it can last for months (poor things!).

Are you sure it is colic and not just generaly baby grumpiness, or teething etc? Colic is not an actual illness but rather a name given to a type of behaviour, simply because nobody knows what causes it!

The best way to tell is if you're baby is crying inconsolably, for hours at a time, and nothing you do calms them down. It's usually worse in the evenings and will be bad for maybe 3 days a week.

They often also pull their legs up to their chests as if they're in pain or having really bad trapped wind. That's why people often think it's related to their digestion, but b/f and bottle fed babies suffer from colic in roughly the same percentages, so it's very unlikely to be related to the mum's diet.

My hubby used to ask if it was colic everytime our baby cried for more than 30 mins in the first couple of months! She stopped if he held her or if I allowed her to suckle though, so definitely not colic.

If you can calm your baby down by holding them or comforting them in other ways then it's not colic!
