Losec- 4 week old baby- long

I think my DS suffers from silent reflux. My GP gave me a prescription for Losec and said to do half a tablet once a day (10mg). It has definitely worked as he is much happier, calmer and having some better sleeps during the day. But the night times are horrendous. He will not settle from about 6pm to 11pm- it's obvious he is in pain. He seems to suffer from very bad wind at this time- maybe it's built up through out the day. Generally at night he will only go maybe 2 maximum 3 hours between feeds and his sleep is very unsettled- he groans and grunts and cries out all the time. This makes it very hard for me & DH to sleep!!!! Is this reflux related or it is just really bad wind??? I have been thinking about giving him another half tablet so he gets one in the morning and one at night. Am booked in again with the GP for a referral to a paed or gastro dr but just wondering if some more losec will help in the meantime.....Would 10mg be too much for a 4 week old baby? My MIL stayed over last night to help out which was wonderful- it was so nice to have an extra pair of hands so both DH and I could actually sleep. But her comments are just that my DH was exactly like this as a baby (which makes me feel crap as I feel like she could cope so why can't I???) She also keeps saying- is he hungry (she seems to prefers ff over bf)- is he getting enough milk, is he allergic to my milk. Anyway- sorry for the ranting- I am happy that he seems to have been given some relief but he is still not an entirely happy chappy & we are all finding it very tiring & stressfull...........

Alexzander was on 10mg from about two weeks old, so you should be all good there

My first question is where is bub sleeping? Is he flat on his back in a cot / bassinet? The reason I ask is that lying flat on their backs can be a trigger for reflux. Try raising his bed head with phone books under the legs or something similar. Also make sure you're holding him fairly upright for around 1/2 an hour after each feed. I know it's exhausting in the middle of the night after a feed, but it really really can help.

As for not coping, I bet MIL had help as well

Thanks Sarah- I know I am taking it personally when I shouldn't with my MIL- she really has been a big help- I am just irritable!
We have raised his bassinette & I never put him on his back....

Hmmm ok. Are you giving him the Losec 1/2 an hour before a feed? I wasnt & he'd always be worse for a few hours after, then my Dr reminded me to do it 1/2 an hour before his feed to get it into his system before the milk was in there.

Before changing his dose on your own, maybe move his 1/2 tablet to his bedtime feed, that way if he is more settled after it he'll have a good night. Daytimes will be tough, but things are so much easier when the sun is out & youve had a half decent night's sleep.

IKWYM about being irritable, it's so hard when they are hurting & you can't help them :hugs:
