My dd is back on losec at 21 months! Any others know babies on it at this age?
As the title says, My dd is back on losec again. We stopped giving it to her about 8 weeks ago as she had a vomiting bug so was throwing it up and then wasn't eating so we couldn't give it to her, so because we were hoping to start weaning her off it soon we didn't put her back on it. She seemed ok for a few weeks but has progressively got worse again. I can hear the swallowing - it comes up, goes down and then she lets out a cry, she being fussier with her food and drink, sleeping is shocking (well I should be used to that now!) and arching her back in her sleep.
So I rung the paed and we have put her back on it. I hope it settles her down again. No one ever warned me how hard this reflux gig would be, I feel like it has run our lives since she was born. So sad for her
Anyone else had a baby that has suffered so long with it and still on meds? Im scared she will always have reflux now and will be on meds for life!
I knew a little guy who was still on it at 7 years old. Couldn't have fizzy drinks (maybe a blessing in that regard) or anything. It's a tough road, but stick with it. It will get better soon.
Have you seen a gastroenterologist for a consult at all? It might be worth looking at possible physical causes for the reflux if it hasn't settled by this age....just a thought...and yeah it is a horrble thing, I have it as an adult and it is not pleasant at the best of times.
My DD is only 6 months and so far we've had no luck in weaning her off zantac, every few months or so the symptoms return. Reading the the signs though and knowing exactly what you're talking about i feel for you. You said it for sure... no one warned us either about the difficulties of having a little one with reflux. I'm sorry your little one seems to still be effected by it.
If you feel like reading a bit more into Reflux i can recommend a book that i saw mentioned in another thread which i tracked down and read. It's called 'Colic Solved. The Essential Guide to Infant Reflux and the Care of Your Crying, Difficult-to- Soothe Baby' by Bryan Vartabedian. It discussed, babies, toddlers and even young children. Just an idea....
sorry you wrote this a while ago, I haven't been on for a long time.
BUT
YES!!! my daughter has it and she is 22 months! (2 on the 2nd of nov) Its so stressful and worrying having them on medication at this age isn't it. We have been waiting to see a specialist for 10 months!!!. My daughters reflux is still bad, if we try to decrease her losec she will stop eating. Her throat must burn her. Shes normally a great eater. We have been to about 8 GP's, a naturopath, chiro and still no luck. It drives me insane not knowing what is causing her reflux and its terrible to see her in pain. The doctors we have seen just look at her, and say 'oh she looks so healthy', so don't really care. We are currently on a dairy free diet to see if that helps. Jasmine has been on losec since 5 weeks old. I worry that its doing her harm, but feel stuck in a rut as if shes not on it shes in that much pain she can't eat. She has an appointment with a pead on the 31st of oct.
How is your little girl now? its such a long road isn't it.
