Jack is 3 weeks and 5 days old, breastfed (and will take a bottle of formular NAN)
H e is CONSTANTLY gurgly in his tummy, runny poos ALL the time, very unsettled and will scream for hours at a time....will happily sleep in my arms upright, but when in basinette he continually wakes and continues to be unsettled, he is also VERY windy, and not matter how much i try to wind him half the time he won't burp...
When he was born he was in the NICU/SCN because of my diabetes, he was on formular in the nursery (pre-NAN FOR PREMMIE BABIES, ALTHOUGH HE WASN'T PREMMIE) His bed in the nursery was angled/elevated and he was placed on his tummy to sleep, hewas so much more settled on his tummy and his poos were not runny like now...
I'm not sure about the reflux, I hope someone can help with that.
Runny poos is what breast feed bubs do, the formula will make them a bit more firmish, but not hard so that maybe why when he was in the NICU/SCN that his poos were different.
With the tummy sleeping can you do that during the day when your awake, so that you can keep an eye on him? Maybe also find a way that the bassinette can be also slightly angled?

At about the same age my little boy was having heaps of trouble with wind and tummy pain and he spewed and spewd after every feed. The MCH nurse told me it wasn't reflux as he was happy, everything i've read on reflux says that if they are unhappy as well as the other symptoms it could well be refulx. I used a little bit of warm boiled water to help get his wind up at it seemed to help sometimes. My baby also slept in a bassinet until 5 and a 1/2 months and i have it elevated by folding a bunny rug or something like that an putting it under the mattress.
With the reflux i would see your dr if your really concerned. Hope this helps good luck
Kat - DD was diagnosed with silent reflux, cos she doesn't puke really, and she was very unsettled, would scream if we put her on her back, arch back when feeding, cry and pull away from the bottle when feeding, she would get a disgusted look on her face and not want the bottle any more after a burp, and just really unsettled.. a nightmare.

We took her to the Chiro and a Homeopath and she is now on drops for it and she is 100% better - a different baby - sleeps through the night, never whinges - only cries when tired...
Could be reflux... DS developed it at about 5 weeks. Is your little one pulling his legs up to his tummy? or back arching alot? These are relux signs. Don't assume that if he is not throwing up that it isn't relux as DS had silent reflux, where the milk comes up and burns them but doesn't vomit.
Tilt EVERYTHING - cot, bassinnette, change table etc and keep bub upright during /after feeds - this can help.
My best advice is not to 'soldier on' go and see someone if you thinkit might be, and get a second opinion if needs be. We had a tough time for months, but once DS was on medication he was a WHOLE different baby. I initially thought I was going crazy and was doing something wrong but that is NOT the case
he constantly has his legs up to his tummy...
his possets every now and then... always has the hiccups... fusses on the boob...
he will at certain times... be it night or day..stay awake for 2+hrs..and just scream....baths help sooth this.
When i say runny poos..i mean like water runny...
After i feed him i try to burp, but he won't always bring a burp up.. i then hold him upright and get him off to sleep....and he is much more content upright.
Kat - maybe he is reacting to something in your milk? or milk allergy or something? Have you tried something like the brauers (sp?) stomach calm or their colic relief stuff to help him bring up his wind? We tried the colic relief first, then infacol, then colic relief and stomach calm - then we went to the homeopath - which worked.
She still screams if you try to lay her down too early - she has to be burped or sat up for about 20 minutes after a feed.
I am trying to get into the Drs this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest..
i am at my wits end..his tummy gurgles constantly... i hate hearing it... i have already once today been in tears.... he is sleeping now (elevated) and hasn't stirred yet...
I am going to ring a friend of mine tonight who is a midwife and ask he if she knows any good peadiatricians...
Katones- you poor thing, I know how hard it is on bubs and on YOU, hang in there it gets better once you know what your dealing with and how to best manage it...
You poor thing i really feel for you, it sounds like u should definately see a Dr soon i really hope u get some answers and something to relieve bubs pain, hang in there i hope u can get an appointment this arvo
we have an appointment this afternoon with our GP.. and if need be i will get a referral to a paediatrician... hard thing is though i still can't drive at the moment because of my caesar.. was going to walk to Drs but hubby is on his way home to take us...
