How to treat teething/dribble rash on a 3 month old?

My 3 month old has terrible dribble rash caused by constantly having a wet chin from either reflux or chewing his hand (I'm sure he is teething). The rash looks terrible, his whole chin is red and spotty and the skin is starting to peel.

I read some suggestions are to put on vaseline or paw paw ointment but is this safe for a 3 month old? He will inevitably lick it off and he is not eating solids yet obviously, so wondering if it would be bad if he swallowed these products.

    Any one know?

Try googling Baby Buzz Balm. It's a beautiful organic balm based on beeswax - word of caution though if you have a family history of bee sting allergy might not be a good one for you!

Definitely not vaseline it is derived from crude oil so not safe for little mouths, probably wouldn't trust paw paw either. If you breastfed a little boob milk will do the trick.

A cheaper alternative is good ol' sorbolene cream. It provides a barrier and allows the skin a bit of a reprieve from the dribble. My DD's rash cleared up very quickly. I was a bit sceptical but it definitely worked for both my DD's

I was going to suggest sorbolene as well. Make sure you get one with minimal glycerol in it. I have a jar from the chemist and its a bit thicker. It works quite well. I put it on DD's face after a bath so that it works its magic overnight and her rash goes away. Also when wiping his face, avoid using tissues, a warm face washer instead seems to cause less irritation to the rash. HTH

My health nurse said to try lansinoh, the one you use when you breastfeed, it worked within a couple of days, before that I had tried everything like sorbolene, baby balms etc,,,

DS2 has bad dribble rash and I use Lansinoh or marclain (both nipple creams) and other times his amber teething necklace, it clears it up well too!!!
