DD (18mo) was put on losec for reflux approx 8 weeks ago and the difference within 24 hours was life changing - her sleep was so improved, from waking every 40 minutes at nap times and several times during the night she went immediately to sleeping through the night and napping for 2 hours without a wake-up.
Unfortunately this was short lived and after 2 or 3 weeks she went back to her old ways and worse. When we went to collect the next script I asked the pharmacist if the meds could stop working after a couple of weeks but they assured me it couldn't as long as it was within the date they printed on the bottle and had been kept in the fridge.
Her sleep improved dramatically again when she started the new bottle but I assumed it was just a fluke. But then she had her first dose from the next new bottle last night and after a couple of horrible weeks she slept through til 5.30am and has just had a nice long nap, so I can only conclude it's the losec.
Has anyone else experienced this? We're seeing the paed next week so I will talk to him about it then.
Do you need to shake the bottle or something like that? All I can think off is that it hasn't mixed evenly, but I haven't used liquid losec before so don't know what it is like.
yes, it does become less effective after a few weeks, I was told this by the pharmacist and my paed. I always found my DD did better at the start of a new bottle.
My DD is still on losec for her reflux but she has the tablet now, which I dissolve and put on her breakfast, it works much better and is even more effective as my paed said its more potent and "fresh". Maybe you could talk to your paed bout this at your next appoint.
Thanks erybery, that's what I was suspecting. I was wondering about the tablet form too - she takes tissue salts tablets in tablet form now when she's teething, but they taste quite nice. I will ask the paed next week about her having tabs at our appointment next week. I'm glad that you could confirm my suspicions though, thank you
Just noticed my lo is exactly a week older than yours
The tablets are quite big so she couldn't swallow it, but they dissolve very easily in just a tiny bit of water - you cant crush it cause that does something to the makeup of the medicine but dissolving is fine.
I noticed they are the same age too. Was she on any other meds for reflux before losec? is hers silent like my dd?
Oh ok, that should be easy enough anyway. Yep, her reflux is silent too. She was on zantac as a really small bub, but the paed decided that as that didn't work the problem couldn't have been reflux, so she went a long long time untreated, poor little thing. A little while ago, after a stint in hospital and a few other health issues another fantastic BB member helped me put 2 and 2 together and I went and jumped up and down at the dr and luckily the paed I took her to agreed that reflux was possible - immediately after she started the meds she was so much better. I feel horribly guilty that it's gone on this long, but relieved that we're starting to help her. What's your DD's story?
