    reflux vs wind & 'possets'/overflow

Whats the difference? Sorry for the ignorance.

Milo spits up a little after virtually every feed, not usually more than 10/20 ml I guess, but has been almost a full feed on occasion.

He gets so much wind, its incredible. Sometimes it takes an hour or more to settle him & get all the wind out. He'll be trying so hard to sleep, and then wince in pain and jerk his arms around, and kick his legs out straight. This cycle will go on for a while until he finally gets to sleep.

At what age can they diagnose reflux?

Matilda was diagnosed with silent reflux at 6 weeks. Some babies are diagnosed earlier. I think the main difference in diagnosis is how much is coming out? Are they gaining weight? Are there excoriations or burns in the throat? Then if they don't have a positive diagnosis there, they generally start to run tests, which are invasive.

Matilda had burns in the back of her throat & would scream for 6 hours at a time, she also would vomit 1-2 projectile vomits a day where they would travel metres. She wasn't a vomitty reflux baby, but she had definate signs of pain and burns. HTH!

Zander was diagnosed with silent reflux at 2 weeks old. Like Matilda he would scream for hours & hours after a feed & had the burns on the back of his throat. His vomits weren't so much a projectile but there was just heaps & heaps of it, like 75% of his bottle.

Matthew has been a happy chucker from birth... and 10 months later he still does it (as you saw the other day!).

Does he cry in pain with the wind? The acid may be burning him a little.... get him checked out with your gp if you are unsure and some of the girls have had success with osteopaths.
