    Signs of a windy baby

    Hi all,

I am having a trying time with my DD the past few days, today has been the worst since coming out of hospital last week.

So just want to get the knowledge out of other mums as to what sorts of signs did your baby give in regards to being full of wind.

And do you think these signs could mean that DD has trouble bringing wind up - legs curled up close body, blue/purple around the mouth (hosp told me this was sign of wind), feeding often, grizzling and grunted, only falling asleep while being held and once in bassinette awake again...

I've tried all the burping techniques and not much comes from them. When is the best time to try bring the burps up - through the middle of a feed or at the end or both? How long to you work on getting a burp up?

I've heard that there are a few things you can give bub (infants friend etc) would that be worth trying?

Oh and DD has only done one dirty nappy since this morning, so that could be adding to her problem..

Todays been a tough day and there has been lots of tears from me....

    Hi,

Congratulations on the birth of your DD!

Infacol is good for bringing burps up as it makes all the sma;; air bubbles join together to form one big one. I am using Infants friend now instead because Lewis's wind seems to be much further down and he seems to have tummy ache when he sleeps.
Also Brauers Colic relief is supposed to be good although I haven't tried it.

I usually try and burp him at least 3 times during a feed and then put him on my shoulder at the end of a feed aswell. Sometimes I also try and wind him again before bedtime. I reckon you can't try enough times! It could make the difference between a decent sleep for them or a restless one.

Turning blue around the mouth is definitely a sign of wind by the way.

    Good luck

Congratulations on your new little one, I can understand how many emotions you are having at the moment. From what you have posted it sounds like you are spot on with it being wind. My first son had really bad wind and it took forever to burp him, so I thought he didn't have wind, I know there are lots of theories, but with my son, once I burped him all the time every time, his wind settled down completely.

Your new bub is still very little, you can try things like infants friend or gripe water, but my best advice is to get a burp up every time.

Good luck, I hope things improve soon.
