I have a hug a bub and love. The Close carrier looks similar but is easier to put on?? I think that these 2 are best as they shape to the little bub and hold them and their head close and securely so you can still get stuff done while you carry them around. It was my saviour for the first couple of months with DD as she just didn't want to be put down.
Love our sleepy wrap sling. The only thing I found was its hot- in summer just had baby in a nappy and myself in a singlet top and stil very hot. Have been told they are easy to make- about 5m of stretch knit fabric and your set.
Found the sling much nicer then the carrier i used for the boys.
When they're really little, a stretchy wrap is good. But they are often quite hot. you can try a woven wrap, which are cooler and can be used on front or back (when you're game). There are gauze wraps for little ones - like the bali baby breeze - which are supposed to be good in summer.
If you're not keen on wrapping, a ring sling could be a good compromise. easier to use, but similiarly light & airy (depending on the fabric)
ergos need an infant insert to use at this age. the olive & applesauce, manduca, for eg, are similar products that have inbuilt newborn seats. You could also consider a mei tai.
Mother's Direct sells quite a good range of products if you want to have a look at them.
i say a close carrier aswell. was awesome, comfy for me and DD. easy to use, not too hot. easy to wash. small enough to stuff in my nappy bag when not in use. dd loved sleeping in it. only had a problem a few times, but it was because i didnt have it on properly. every other time, she would sleep in it for hours!
