My DD is 13 weeks and since about 4 weeks she seems to have had colic and a lot of wind pain. Gripe water works wonders for her (sometimes I can hear her stomach churning as soon as I give it to her and some farts can come out straight away) and the dummy is a lifesaver (much to my disgust!) - she sucks on it frantically when her pain peaks. She's always been at her worst late afternoon / early evening and the heat pack on the belly seems to help and I've got her on Infacol too. At about 10 weeks the wind pain got really bad then she seemed to get better a couple of weeks ago and I thought that her digestive system was starting to kick into gear and she was growing out of it, however the last week has been worse again, even to the point of having to give her baby paracetamol a couple of times. She's also started to do little coughs which I now suspect may be silent reflux too.
I guess my question is: has anyone else experienced it getting worse at this age? And to get better then worse again?
She is fully BF and I eliminated dairy from my diet which didn't make any difference (and there's no correlation between the timing of this and her getting better or worse). She sleeps well at night, is very alert and a real happy baby (when she's not in pain) so I'm not rushing her to the doctors yet... Any advice?
maybe try a baby osteopath - a friend of mine just had huge success with one. Her LO was about 6 weeks and in quite a bit of discomfort all the time. One session with the osteo and its all been sorted.
my dd2 was like that but I ended up taking her to a paed as she just cried all. the. time. she was diagnosed with silent reflux at 13 weeks and put on Losec suspension. and it was my lifesaver. within 1 week she was a different child. she still cried but nothing like she had been and I could actually put her down for longer than 5 mins! I also 2nd seeing an Osteo. it wasn't a magical cure but there was definitely an improvement. I'm on my phone so can't see where you're located but if you're in Melbourne I can recommend the Osteo I went too she was fantastic and specializes in paediatric cranio sacral Osteopathy.
