Wondering how old your little ones were when they were diagnosed with reflux/colic?
My bub is only new,11 days old,but I'm suspecting reflux.at the hospital discharge app the paed said it was too early to diagnose so I'm not sure how long I should leave it before I follow it up again if she hasn't gotten over it.
At about 5 weeks, but once I knew what to look for the signs had been there from about 2 weeks. I definitely wish I went to the gp earlier about it, thought she was just a screamer lol
Our pead also thought ds may have had while we were still in hospital but he wanted to wait and see. So he was officially diagnosed at 4 weeks, it was grand final weekend and we stayed home all weekend. Turns out the movement of the car helped settle the reflux. That was one hell of a weekend you could see ds was in so much pain the screaming was awful. He ended up on Zantac straight away. He only needs it now when he is teething as it flares right up again.
Oh forgot to say dd's is silent reflux. Ot was nuts until she got diagnosed, pretty much never happy when awake, and only sleeping about 10 hours out of 24. Like a different baby since starting losec
He had it from the day he was born...............i could hear that distinctive gulp just hours after he was born. He was settled that first night but from night 2 until we got him officially diagnosed, he was very unsettled. I mentioned it to the paed before discharge on day 3 and she didnt have alot to say. I also mentioned it to my CHN at 3 wks when she SAW him during one of his very unsettled times and she told me to stop medicalising him. Thats why when i finally posted here i was still a bit unsure as to whether i was on the right track or not because 2 people had fobbed me off. Luckily, when i took him to the dr (prepared to stand my ground) and said I have reflux and so have my previous 3 children (they had the spewing reflux though, very different to him, no pain associated with it, just vomitting, he was extremely different) he straight out when "Ok, what meds do you want?". Well we were definitely on the right track because the meds have worked a treat and so has the ar formula.
Make sure you get her seen to if she doesnt settle for you............and sleep when u can, i was only getting 30mins sleep every 2 hrs overnight cos he was feeding 2 hrly 24/7 and taking ages to feed and settle, then i would be wide awake and couldnt get back to sleep, then just as i did, he would wake again.
Ds's was silent too, he didn't start to throw up until later. He cleared his throat, had a husky voice and always wanted to be upright. He lived in the carrier for months.
DD has silent reflux and she was diagnosed at about 3 weeks from memory and had it from about week 1. If you think there is something going on get a 2nd opinion. Go to a Dr and ask for a refferal for a paed. I'm glad I persisted. MCHN, MW's etc all told me it was normal newborn behaviour. She would scream for 8hrs non stop, night after night. We ended up in emergency a few times and she was finally diagnosed with silent reflux and put on Zantac which has been our saving grace. I say go with your mummy instincts and if you think it's not right then take it further. Hope things improve for you, hugs.
