HI, up until now i would feed my DD to sleep and she would stay asleep once i put her in her cot, no probs. now in the last week she will wake up after 5 mins screaming. so i will go and try and settle her in her cot. that dosent work, so i pick her up and rock and cuddle her to try and get her to sleep, that dosent work, so i feed her again and she will go off to sleep, i will put her back in her cot... and she wakes up in 5 mins and we go throu the whole thing again and again, it can take HOURS to get her to stay asleep.
my DS wasnt a great self settler either, but i used to be able to just rock him for a while and he would go to sleep and stay asleep, so it wasnt a problem.
shes so little, i hate her to get so upset. its so frustrating! im hoping this is just some sort of growth spurt.
Hi hun, . It sounds very frustrating to have found that what was working now isn't.
It sounds like she's still hungry. If she won't settle, try bfing her. She could be going through a growth spurt, or maybe she just fell asleep before she was done during the first bf.
Have you tried waking her by changing her, swapping sides, etc, once she falls asleep initially, just to see if she does want more? It sounds like putting her in her cot is waking her and she realises she's still hungry.
She's still only little, so if it isn't a hunger issue, perhaps trying to put her in a sling or wrap might work for you?
Hi hun, I know a lot of people don't like them, so disregard if that applies to you But does she have a dummy? I think some babies just need to suck to fall asleep and stay asleep.. she might be half waking after 5 mins, realising the boob is gone and crying. If you pop a dummy in when she wakes and try to pat or rock her off, it might get her backto sleep.
I also just realised that at 6 weeks my DD suddenly went through a period of fussiness where she wanted to feed constantly. It took a couple of days for my supply to catch up with her increased demand and she got more back to 'normal' with bfing patterns. It might be a growth spurt or something like that.
