    Bed Rails?

    Hi all,

Our DD 3 months has been sleeping with us since birth. She is not always in the middle of myself and DH, and has just started becoming a bit more active during sleep.
So, I bought a bed rail and it sucked! I could push it ever so slightly and there was still HEAPS of room for a small baby to get stuck between, so, it's going back tomorrow!

Anyone got any great tips or brands for preventing bubs from falling out of bed?

    Thanks in advance!!!!!

I would just recommend NOT getting a wooden gaurd rail of any kind as my DS had an accident where he fell on to the wooden gaurd rail which was built on to his bed (a popular childrens bed actually), and had a large gash in the side of his chin. I would go for one of the padded mesh kinds.

We co-slept for 2 years though and never used a guard rail on our bed, he always slept between us, or if he did on the outside we put a pillow there, though i wouldn't do that until after 6 months just in case of smothering.

I have a Safety 2st one that attaches to the mattress. It's great because there is no gap (it actually sits on top of the mattress & clamps underneath. You do lose a little bit of mattress - but at least there is no room for smothering. It's made from mesh (which DS loses running his fingers along - this is often how he falls to sleep. It's designed for an ensemble, but you can use it on a bed with wooden slats, provided that the slats are in the right position for the clamps underneath (which I guess you wouldn't know until you bought it! - fortunately for DS's bed, it fitted fine)

Thanks Ezz. I did see those Safety 1st ones in the store but I didn't buy it because of the losing some of the room on the bed. We only have a Queen and am trying to conserve as much space as possible. How much room do you lose Ezz? I m having trouble with space as it is using pillows and such.

You lose about 10cm. The nice thing is that you tuck the covers under the rail, so then you know they are going to be nice & firm across bub (and not going to ride up & smother him)
