DD is almost 1...does it get better?

Our DD is almost 1. Some nights she sleeps right through and some nights she doesn't. She has never been a terribly good sleeper. She co-slept from birth to 9.5 months (never went in her cot) and now sleeps in her toddler bed.

Just wondering does it ever get better (the sleep thing) and what age or does it differ with every baby? Must sound like a stupid question but would love to hear what other people experience.

We are contemplating #2 in 2009 too. Hmmm....I am worried though, about the sleep thing and whether when the baby cries, will it wake DD? Those with 2 kids, does this happen all of the time, do they wake each other up?

    Thanks for your help!!

Tallon didn't sleep through EVER until well after he was 2 yrs old. So I think you're lucky to get some nights! hehe.

Kayla still wakes frequently through the night (she's co-sleeping atm), and is easily disturbed if Tallon comes in to us. But Tallon after about the first week of Kayla being home didn't wake to her crying at all. It's amazing what he sleeps through when it comes to Kayla hehe. he was still coming in to us in the early days, so he was usually between us and kayla was next to me in the cot attached to the bed, and he slept through all the feeds and nappy changes.

We're about to set up Kayla's big bed in his room. Because he sleeps right through, and sleeps through her wakings I'm hoping it will go smoothly.

My DD is 20mths and very very rarely sleeps through, like she's done it maybe....6 times in her life (at home, when we sleep at nana's she sleeps through often.....). She's going through a rough patch at the moment and we can be up more times with her than with DS, up to 6times a night! DS wakes probably 3 times for a feed, he's cosleeping and doesn't often get to cry before I shove my BB in his mouth, LOL! So I haven't had the issue of him waking DD (she's in her own room in her cot). DD doesn't usually wake DS, though sometimes he will wake after she's been screaming, or woken at night.

Yes, it does get better. But they are all different, and TBH, even once they start sleeping through, there are always some nights when they wake - be it illness, wetting the bed, nightmare or whatever.

DS1 slept through every night from 6 weeks until 7 months. Then we had horror nights until he was 16 months. DS2 started sleeping through at 12 months, and is now the one who is least likely to wake in the night.

So there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. FWIW, DS1's sleeping was at the shocking stage right up until 3 months before DS2 was born. But luckily he did settle down before the birth.

I should also say that when DD was a newborn and during those first few months, she wasn't woken by DS. It's only as she got older and more aware that she's become a lighter sleeper.

Actually, it's only been on the very odd occassion that either of my boys have been woken by the other. DS1 is a lighter sleeper than DS2, but I think they are both so used to each other's sounds that they even sleep through loud crying most of the time!
