Getting your newborn/young baby to sleep with toddler around?

Currently, when it comes to sleep I pop DS in the sling during the day or feed him to sleep at night, which works for us mostly. But I was just wondering a couple of things:

    a) when did you start to settle your baby and pop them in a cot/bassinet/whatever to sleep instead of slinging them and

    b) how did you settle them?

    c) was it an easy transition from sleeping in the sling to settling and sleeping elsewhere?

    TIA

I have never used the sling with DD2 so i can't really answer regarding transition but i have found that for her first 2 sleeps i follow her tired signs, wrap and put her in the bassinett (int the lounge) and she tends to go off on her own.
For the rest of the day i generally give her a cuddle or a feed to sleep.

I have had her in the lounge amongst the noise from day 1, i didn't want to be constantly telling DD1 to be quiet, that will obviously change now as DD2 is getting older and more alert but we are moving soon and she will be in the cot in her own room.

I find sometimes DD1 wants to 'help' she likes to 'pat' DD2 when she's upset or help me change her nappy, she isn't too much of an issue while i am trying to settle DD2... FOR NOW... lol

Sorry prob no help, hope someone has some more answers regarding transition for you.
