Hi!
So a lady that lives a couple blocks away and has two boys has come up with yet ANOTHER idea as to why darling son wakes so much during the night... but first some history of what I have been told for the past 13 months!
First it was... when he gets a bit older and the weather gets cooler (this I was expecting myself actually)
Then... he'll sleep through the night when you move him out of the cradle and into a bigger bed
After that is was... I'm sure he'll start sleeping through the night when you start solid food...
...when he crawls
...when he walks
AND NOW... surely he will sleep through the night when he is in his own room and no longer sleeping in your bedroom!
Now I am fully aware that some babies sleep better in their own room, but DS sleeps better when he is with both of us!
I THINK he is simply the worlds LIGHTEST sleeper and simply wakes at the slightest noise or disturbance and will ultimately learn to sleep through more noises as he gets older.
He is awake now thanks to some dingbat who felt the need to drive by with their stereo thumping and booming and he isn't re-settling so I will need to tend to him before long I think - thus I should sign off!
But I just had to share this newest thought with everyone...
I think perhaps if we set the goal that they'll sleep through by the time they're 16.. then we'll be pleasantly surprised if they sleep through before then! LOL. It'll save the disappointment of them not reaching these other 'goals'.
DS sleeps better/longer with us too. I think he prefers to bump into us when he rolls over than the sides of the cot.
He's only 12 months, but now that he knows how to climb off the bed safely, we're seriously considering getting him a 'big bed' and trying him in that.. that way if he wakes up, we can go and lie with him in his bed to resettle.
LOL oh dear.... I guess she has to have some reason why he isn't sleeping
Maybe she should come over & tell me why Matilda at almost 3 doesn't sleep through
Heidi, have you tried playing some music softly in his room through the night. Lachlan wakes if we get a slight breeze outside and his door creeks. Or if DF sneezes down the other end of the house. Its terrible in the day because when he is asleep i cant even put the kettle on and sit down and relax because any sort of noise in the kitchen will wake him too. i have found though, that putting a cd on repeat (just one of those classical baby sleep albums) all day and night has helped to drown out the background noise and he seems to sleep a bit better (still not enough though!)

We have been playing a white noise CD (Sounds for Silence) for MONTHS now and I now play a lullabies CD on one stereo and the white noise (quietly) on another stereo - and he still wakes through the night!!
