    TCC after Implanon

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to the board so I should probably introduce myself. My name is Catherine and I'm 26 years old living in Townsville, QLD with my beautiful partner Ash (29 years old). We've recently decided start TTC. So ... a little history, I went on the pill at 16 years old due to extremely heavy periods. At 25 I went off the pill for about 4 months before having the implanon implant inserted in May 07. I had the rod taken out on November 7th 08. I was extremely suprised to start my period on December 7th! Most things I read said that a lot of women can take up to 3-6 months for their periods to return.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has conceived after using implanon and how long it took. I'm aware that is probably going to take me a long time to conceive since I have been on contraception for most of my life since my first period (14 years old). My mother was on the pill for about 10+ years also and conceived 6 weeks after she stopped taking it!

When I was 23 years old I fell pregnant to my ex (not together at the time) while i was taking the pill (had a bout of gastro which must have affected it). I have had CIN2/3 cells removed from my cervix around the same time with the LETZ procedure. One morning I started spotting then by that afternoon i was bleeding quite heavily. I freaked out thinking my abnormal cells were back so immediately called my Gyno. As soon as he examined me he said "I'm sorry but you're having a miscarriage" I told him no i couldn't possibly be as he knew i was still on the pill! He then assured me i definately was miscarrying and i would have been around 8-10 weeks along. You can imagine the shock and emotions that all fell into place at once. BAM ... you're pregnant ... BAM ... No you're not. I sat in his office and cried for 2 hours. It took me about 3 months before i could even tell my ex about it.

Anyway .... I've also jsut found out that my abormal cells are back again. I have an appoinment with my Gyno on Monday to have a colposcopy so will know more after Xmas about where we stand on the whole TTC thing now. Naturally we want to get that corted out before falling pregnant.

Excuse all my rambling, I guess once i started typing i didn't realise how much ther would be tell about my history! I would love to hear any stories from women who have conceived after prolonged use of conceptions and/or abnormal cells.

hi. i'm Tess. and we're TTC#1 after implanon removal over 3 months ago. i've only gotten my period back in the last week so we're hopeful we're finally on the way to actually concieving.

i dont have any advice at all as we're only TTC. but i know its different for everyone as a friend of mine who had had 3 implanon's in a row had hers removed for TTC a few weeks ago and got her period the day after the implanon was removed. so its definantly different for everyone.

    good luck with it all.

    Hi Satsumi,

Thanks for you message. I have my fingers crossed for you also. My period was due on Friday and hasn't arrived yet. I'm not getting my hopes up at all because I am assuming that i may take some time to get my regular cycle back after implanon/pill. Will keep you updated!

I think it really does vary from person to person. I know a couple of different women who have gotten pregnant in their second cycle after going off the pill. I also know some one who it took over a year...

I myself have used contraception for about 12 or 13 years, including implanon. I had my implanon removed about 6 months before TTC and went back on the pill. I'd also had an abnormal pap smear, but it turned out to be nothing. Anyway, after going off the pill we got pregnant in the fifth month. While we were trying it seemed to take forever... but now it all seems to have happened pretty quickly...

Anyway, good luck with TTC. Don't stress to much, instead enjoy it
