    Advice for friend needed...

    Hi All,

I am all new to this and I have to admit I dont know much about preg tests etc..

A friend of mine split up with a girl he was seeing and she has over the past month or so been trying everything to get him back.. She has now text him to say she has done three preg tests and all have come back positive so he asked her to go to the docs to have a blood test. She had the blood test on Monday at 12 and by 2.30 (quick test!) said the results were negative.

She is now saying that the doctors have said the blood test could be wrong and that it could just be the pill giving either a false BFP or effecting the blood test and they are sending her for an internal scan.

Does this sound suss??? I didnt think the pill could affect a preg test?

I am worried about him cause he is young and super naive (and not so bright ...)

Hi there JNG, yup pretty suss to me. There is very little that will interfere with an HCG blood test, more likely to be the other way round getting a false positive hpt (evaporation lines and such) than a false negative blood test. Even if she was on the pill, it wouldn't mask HCG in the blood. Me thinks she isn't pg. HTH

When did she say her period was due ??

In my opinion, the only reason the GP may have said the blood test may be inaccurate, is that it is too soon for a HCG level to show, even via a BT. IE: If it was a couple of days before her period. She may have been "telling white lies" about the urine tests, and the GP is sending her for a scan to double check there is a pregnancy.

An internal ultrasound, from my experience, will usually show a "gestational sac" from around 5.5 weeks.

She did the three home tests Sunday morning all BFP, and had blood test on Monday.

I think she told him that AF is two weeks late..

    thanks really appreciate any opinions!

    hey Jng,
I don't really know how the whole blood test thing happens at the Dr's either. Mind you though if she is two weeks late for AF you'd think a blood test would pick up that she was pregnant without a doubt. Perhaps suggest to your friend that he should go to the Dr visits with her so he knows exactly whats going on. Nothing better than hearing something straight from the horses mouth, I say!
Hope everything works out for him!

JNG : I think you will find that she isnt pregnant. And I am afraid, I have to agree with Teagz, if this young lady is indeed thinking she is pregnant, I am sure your friend attending the appointments/scans with his "ex", will be welcomed by her, as she would want him to be part of any outcome.

The best advice I can give, is for him to be supportive to her, attending appointments, and with AF being two weeks late, they will know by the end of the week.
