Ok I know everyone has their own opinion but I want to get as many opinions as possible
I know it's better to not drink coffee or any caffeine for that matter while pregnant but what about while you are ??
Now I only have 1 real coffee (as in cappuccino not that instant crap) and a decaf in the mornings if I really need a warm coffee hit (trick the brain into thinking I am having a caffeine) Now I have been to a seminar held by an obs at a Private Hospital and he said that one coffee a day (brewed or 2 instant coffees a day) is fine even while pregnant....
so thoughts... I have read so many things that I am and I have no idea who wrote them so I really want to hear from others like me!
It comes down to your being at your healthiest, IMO. If that coffee each day makes you feel great then I reckon go for it. If drinking coffee has a negative effect on your body (ie makes you nervy or keeps you awake at night or buggers up your digestion) then maybe it's not a good thing for you to have.
I have quite happily drunk at least 1 coffee per day whilst TTC, pregnant and breastfeeding. That's my groove and you'll find yours. Best thing though is not to stress cause I'll wager stressing over it is worse for you than the caffeine.
snacks, you make a good point... as do toomanyshoes and [M]umma[M]ia
but I don’t drink coffee at night, the one caffeine laden one is at lunch but I think I might go for a weak one to meet somewhere in the middle...
I am hoping when I do get my I will turn off of the taste of it... so then the guilt wont be there.... everyone I know so far turned off the taste and said they couldn’t stand even the smell... that delicious coffee smell!!!!! But usually that was with the first pregnancy...
I agree with the point about moderation. My fertility specialist is fine with 1-2 cups a day. No idea about turning off the taste but frankly, I don't care what turns me off as long as I get pregnant!
A friend who is Gyn/Dr said upto 300mg of caffine per day is fine ...... personally I switch to decaf (which still has small traces of caffine in it) as soon as I become preggers but I don't for conception.
Coffee and I don't really agree with each other. It makes me shake and gives me a headache so whilst I love the taste of it I never generally had it unless I was out at a cafe and really felt like one. But while I was pregnant I actually craved coffee! I ended up having a few small iced coffee Big M's in the fridge for when the craving was at it's peak. They had the same amount of caffeine as a cup of tea, I actually emailed the company that makes it to find out lol. Personally I don't think that caffeine is that good for your body and will say the same as I did in another thread recently about drinking while pregnant. In an ideal healthy world I think we would all say no to caffeine, alcohol, smokes, drugs, junk food etc and I think that we all know that it's not the best choice for health and when ttc, pregnant or breastfeeding we all want to be as healthy as we can. Since breastfeeding I have still had the odd craving for a coffee (go figure)?!? so I've found decafe (with hazelnut syrup) and have had maybe 5 over the last 3 months when I've visited the markets. I still don't think it's the best choice for ds or myself but hey we can all only do what we can
I think it is what works for you. Personally I need a coffee to function in the morning and that was moreso while pregnant. I always have 1 real coffee a day and did so during TTC and pregnancy. Sorry but I never lost the taste for it while pregnant.
Definitely coffee for me. Only time I havent had my morning coffee was when I had morning sickness. I only have 1 brewed and then hot choc after that so I can have a cup or 2 of tea in the evening. Much better than the average 7 a day coffees I used to have before TTC.
I was a coffee LOVER before and when I was TTC. Strangely enough I haven't really had the desire to drink it while pregnant (saying that though I love my cuppa's but have changed to decaf.) Like the other ladies said in moderation 1-2 wouldn't cause to much of a drama I reckin.
I definitely think that we stress too much about what a pregnant woman can and cannot have these days. If you look back centuries ago drinking tea was a common past time with women and tea was a lot more popular than coffee was back then (did they HAVE coffee back then?) but I swear they must have drank triple the amount of tea compared to how many coffees a woman would drink in 1 day nowadays.
Anyway my point being they all seemed to have A LOT of children so really having 1 or 2 cups of coffee in a day probably wouldn't harm you or your unborn baby as much as professionals say it does.
I personally can't drink that much of anything with caffeine anymore because it gives me reflux but I would probably still have at least 1 cup of tea a day even if I wasn't affected by it.
Thanks girls, you have all been a great help... I have loved hearing all your opinions and experiences...
I find out on the weekend if I am so I think I will switch to decaf if I am and only when and if I really need a coffee hit on days I just can't function I will have a real one... I will just ask for a weak one!
