Who treats fertility/ovulation issues - OB, gyno, GP?

I have read from others that you can get a blood test to see if in fact you are ovulating. My two questions about this are - who are you best to see for this type of testing - OB, gyno or simply visit GP and request it? Also, how soon after coming off the pill would they allow/suggest this to be done ie. is 4 months off pill too soon to look into whether you are ovulating? My questions arise from never getting an +OPK despite getting AF's.

    TIA guys!

Beth, I just went to the local medical centre which had a 'gribbles' pathology attached...and my Progesterone and Lutenizing hormon levels were tested with a BT on that day...I went back in 2 days time with the results...and was then given a referral to a Gyno.

I don't think there is any limit to how long after you come off the pill.

I was on my 6th cycle off it, but it wouldnt be a factor at all.

Oh. Thanks Chrissy. What day of your cycle did you get the test done and does it matter how long your cycles are (mine ranges between 31-38 days, usually 37)? Did you just ask for it to be done on that day?

I was 8DPO when I had my blood taken because thats when the spotting had started again that cycle, so that would have been CD25.

I had the blood tests done because of my spotting throughout my LP. Basically if your progesterone levels come back within the normal range, then it is considered that you are ovulating...as you only begin to produce progesterone when you ovulate....plus they check that the luetinzing hormone levels are there as well to indicate an eggs release.

So yes, i simply went in and requested a BT to check levels because of my spotting.

    Hi Bethany,
The blood test for your prog. level to see if you have ovulated is often called a "21 day" blood test as it is done around day 21 but I think it can be done a few days either side of 21. They may do it on a different day for you as you have a longish cycle. I think in 4 cycles you should have started ovulating so I'd begoing for the test if I was you. good luck.
