TTC how long before you seek medical/fertility assistance?

As the title of this thread suggests, does anyone know what the recommended period of TTC is before you seek some help? And I assume you would first see your GP and they would refer you on to a gynae? or does anyone have any natural therapies that could be recommended? Im very confused!

If you're under 35 you usually need to wait 12 months to get a referral to a fertility specialist from your GP. If you're 35 or older you can usually get a referral after 6 months. However, if you're charting BBT's and can show that you have irregular or annovulatory cycles you can often get a referral earlier (typically half those times previously mentioned).

In terms of natural therapies, I started seeing an acupuncturist just over 2 months ago and I'm sure her work was the reason I got my first ever BFP last month (after almost 3 years of trying, including several failed IVF). In addition to the acupuncture she's had me on several supplements and chinese herbs. You don't need a referral, but you should make sure you find someone who specialises in fertility.
