    Blood test to confirm pregnancy?

    Hello girls,

I can't seem to find this info on the web (though I'm sure its "out there" somewhere!). I was wanting to know how long it took to get blood tests back from the Dr confirming you are pregnant?

DH and I were only just diagnosed with male factor infertility and yet I've had 4 faint lines on pregnancy tests over the past 4 days. We can't believe it's true as our chances are very very very slim without ISCI/IVF. I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I would feel better with a Drs blood test....

Now I'm trying to figure out when I can get to the Drs and when I will hear the results!

    TIA for your help!

    Ruth

    Hi Ruth,

First all, congratulations on getting faint bfp's with your home tests.

Usually blood tests to confirm you are actually pregnant should only take a couple of days to come back from the lab. I know mine did anyway. I had my blood drawn on the thursday and went to the doctor on monday and he had the results. Some doctors if you request it and if they allow it - can put it through quicker than that and you can have the results back the next day but yeah depends on your doctor and your circumstances.

In my opinion (because you say your lines are faint) if you know where you are at in your cycle I would wait until you are close to being due for your AF or even overdue before having a blood test done, that way your body has enough time to build your HCG levels and you will get a better result.

Good luck with it and I do hope that this is it for you!

Thanks Sasha! A few days wait! Argh I'm going out of my mind here! We have 4 faint lines and I know a line is a line, but I am worried. And trying very hard not to get my hopes up!

Re timing in cycle, my period was due on Friday (now Sunday) but that's just based on CM observations. Things were weird this cycle due to the stress of the infertility diagnosis! I would have thought if I was two days overdue I would have got a stronger line.... and the line is no stronger today than it was on Friday when I first tested...

Only other symptoms are slightly tender breasts. I normally get frequent urination and slight naseua anyway but I I have some of those too...

Yeah a line IS a line - what brand of test are you using? I swear by Discover One Step's - they are the best in my opinion!!

I got my first bfp with that brand when I was only 10 or 11 dpo - line was faint but definitely there!

If you are getting lines and have been for days then it is a really good sign.

I would call your doctor tomorrow and make an appointment to get a referral done for your blood test and put yourself out of your misery hehe

Bloodwork does not lie so at least you will know for sure!!

I'm using lullabye conceptions dipsticks. I am planning on getting a different brand this morning at the shops so I will go with Discover One Step then, thanks for the reccomendation.

DH and I figured out another reason why we are sceptial about this positive test (all four of them!) is that we didn't BD muc except for 5 days before suspected ovulation and 7 days after!

Personally I aint a big fan of the LC tests (had a few friends get false positives with them) but I would say definitely go out and get a Discover One Step test and try that, if you are pregnant that test will definitely tell you!

Good luck - let me know how you go!

Yeah, I've never had a BT to confirm it. The HPT's were enough.
Maybe twice I did another urine test at the gp's, but thats it.
I'm pretty sure its a BFP!
    Good luck!!

    Congrats on your BFP!

Maybe you could ask your doctor for a referral to have an early ultrasound done rather than waiting for the blood results (or do both).
I had a scan at 5 weeks 4 days with DS. You probably wont see a heartbeat that early (we didnt) but least youll be able to see if theres a viable pregnancy?

    Best of luck!

TBH i didnt really believe that i was pg until i had my first scan, DH found a HPT in the toliet when i was about 10wks and asked if i was still doing them... yep - every week i did one JIC the tests were all wrong - probably becasue i never had any symptoms really...
I should have had a BT - would have saved me a whole heap of $$

5BFP sound really promising to me

I've used a lot of LC HPT's and I never got a false positive. Faint lines for me usually meant an early loss (confirmed by blood test) whereas a dark line meant successful pregnancy.

If you ask your doctor to mark the BT urgent you can get results back the following day. Due to my history my doctor was always happy to mark the tests urgent and I'm sure yours will be happy to do so too.

Best of luck for a positive BT.

Ive had blood tests with all my pregnancies. Providing i got bloods taken b4 midday, i usually would get the results the next day.

    Good luck....

OH wow... woohoo how exciting for you and your dh...

your in my boat.. or am i in your lmao.. :P

I tested on fri morning and had a faint faint faint positive, and have had the same every day... but i find it hard to believe but as everyone is saying, a line is a line!!! lol

I saw my GP, yest and she said, test again in a few days and then come back in and we will do the routine tests... with both my bubs i got my BFP by POAS and then went in, they would do a HPT and routine bloods.

SO, sounds like a few different ways our GP's are doing things...

Well you've had a number of faint lines on a couple of brands....If you can see the line at arms length then I would take that as being positive. If you have to squint or move the stick around to see a line then I'd be re-testing or going to the doc for bloods.

Miracles do happen and I hope you've got your miracle!!! All the best sweets

Thanks for all your advice! Congrats Missymoo on your BFP too! We might be buddies in the due in April 08 thread!

Well based on your advice I'm going to hopefully see the Dr this morning and get some blood test organised and hopefully will hear back tomorrow! We are still disbelieving but now have 6 tests all with lines on! DH worked out that the chance of getting a false positive on 6 tests was 2.4 in 1 trillion (assuming they are independant tests if you remember your statistics).
