Breastfeeding and low ovarian reserve cause of irregular periods???

    Hi,

I hope I'm posting this in the right section.

My DS2 is nearly 6 months old and he is breast fed with one or two bottles of formula a day and also eating solids 3 times a day.

I know it's different with every bub but I got my period back when DS1 was 6 months old and my periods were regular pretty much straight away and DS1 self weaned from breastfeeding at 7.5 months.

I got my first period with DS2 back on 15 April but haven't had a period since. I have done about 4 pregnancy tests as in all my life I have never had a cycle over 30 days and its just strange for me to currently be on CD35 without AF showing. My cycles have always been between 23-25 days.

Is this normal to have irregular periods while breastfeeding and common? Anyone else experienced the same thinng?

I was told just before I fell pregnant with DS2 that my ovarian reserve was low and FS was going to start me on Clomid but I conceived naturally that month. Could an even lower ovarian reserve now after DS2 cause me to have irregular periods now?

Has anyone with a low ovarian reserve experienced irregular periods?

    Thanks.

Breastfeeding and low ovarian reserve cause of irregular periods???

I think getting your period back after having a baby can be all over the place. Your hormones are probably still settling down. Also on the low ovarian reserves, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on it. If it was an AMH test they are just an indicator but as you proved by getting pregnant doesn't necessarily mean much. Periods do change as women get older and closer to menopause but I think your pregnancy and breastfeeding hormones would be what is affecting your period returning regularly.

Breastfeeding and low ovarian reserve cause of irregular periods???

Thanks for that Dusty. That's what I kind of thought and hoped although I desperately want to have another bub and just a bit worried about the low ovarian reserve. Yeah it was an AMH test and its true its just an indication but FS my level should have come back around a 17 for my age but it came back at a 6. I was planning to head back to FS in a few months to discuss things but might go sooner rather than later...

Breastfeeding and low ovarian reserve cause of irregular periods???

I have made an appt with my FS and seeing him on 6 June. I figure I may as well see him sooner rather than later to talk about my future pregnancy plans especially with my low ovarian reserve.

My AMH was 1.5 last year and my cycle came back as regular as ever while I was BF (the year before my AMH was tested). However, I was O'ing later than normal and had a shorter LP due to the BF.

I'd say it's most likely your hormones being out of whack due to BF and nothing to worry about (just a bit frustrating if you're wanting to TTC).

Hi Juniper! Thanks for your reply hun. My FS said my AMH level for my age should have been about 15-17 and it came back at a 6. That was last year March. AF finally showed and I am guessing you're right that its probably just bf and hormones mucking around.

I have however made another FS for 13 June and going to get my AMH retested to give me an indication on things and that will help me decide whether to try for a 3rd bub without any help or wait a few months and go on Clomid like he was going to suggest last year but I fell pregnant naturally that cycle. Anyway sorry for waffling on.
