Can weight effect the amount of Hcg detectable in urine in early preg?

Just wonding if being overweight can dilute the amount of Hcg in your urine in early pregnancy. I am about 25 kilo's overweight and when I was pregnant with Charli even the most sensative test (one that could pick up 10iu Hcg) only showed a very very faint line the evening after AF was due (15DPO) and absolutely no line on the few days previous. So I was just wondering if my weight could have been a factor as to why early HPT's didn't pick up anything earlier.

I don't know - I didn't think something like that would affect it. I have never been one to get an early +ve test on a HPT except for my last pg and I was heavier with that pg then I have ever been.

i wondered on this theory as well Spice - it makes sense that the embie can only release so much HCG which would get diluted as the blood volume for a larger lass is obviously going to be higher than for a skinny girl. there are so many other factors that can alter this though! i am a larger girl, and have always gotten a positive no later than 13 dpo, this time as early as 10dpo - it was pale, but definitely there! things like the sensitivity of the test obviously come into it (i don't have a lot of faith in some of the "super" sensitive ones being as sensitive as they say), how concentrated your pee is (if you are dehydrated, you'll get a stronger result) - and then other things like how many days after ovulation/conception implantation happened (it can be anything up to 12dpo). whether you conceived on o day or in the day afterwards etc...

i was at what should have been 15dpo when i had my BT for this cycle - and got a result of only 26 for hcg - at scans it came back showing i may have ovulated up to five days late (go figure - it was an IUI cycle - i thought ovulation was guaranteed at time of trigger!). i think it was more about how concentrated the urine was (i was feeling sick already and drinking lots wasn't working - also had mild OHSS so ovaries leaking water into my abdo instead of it being processed through kidneys!).

the ranges of "normal" hcg that early in pregnancy are really broad, and the "average" HPT only picks up the results for the "average" or above average HCG counts at that time...

Definately my size didnt effect my HCG!
My HCG was through the roof with my pg and i am cuddly!!
Even with this singleton my HCG was the absolute highest end of highs- so much so that they suspected a multiple birth again! I could light up a pee stick like a xmas tree within seconds- even b4 AF was due!

so i think it is more the person, rather than the size of the person. Although the amount of HCG can affect how sick you may be - trust me!!!!!

    Thanks for the reply girls

Okay, so it's probably just different from person to person. I suspect the egg implanted at 10 DPO with Charli as that was when I had a bit of pink spotting and it makes sense that it would take 4 or so days after implantation for a detectable amount of hCG to be present. My normal hCG levels must just be at the lower end of the scale. I've never had a BT to confirm levels so I'm just assuming from the faintness of the HPT line.

Oh and Odette, I didn't have any morning sickness so you might just be right there!

I think it CAN but it might not - as BG says, she could get a BFP before AF was due. I was about 20kg overweight when i fell PG and only got a VERY faint BFP 3 days after AF was due. I have a really skinny friend who's had 4 kids and she NEVER gets a BFP on HPT's. She's tried countless brands and tested up to 4 or 5 months (when HCG is actually declining again) but nup, nada. She has to demand a blood test before they'll believe her and even they show really low hcg for gestation - she was nearly 7 months before she was confirmed PG with #1! They don't really know why she's like that, they now refer her for a u/s when she misses AF.

Hmmm, very interresting about your friend Hoobs. I guess it goes to show that everyone is different. I think it took a good week to 10 days after my first faint BFP for the line to actually get as dark as the control line. Yes I became a compulsive HP tester hehe
