Well DH thought I was joking at first until I said check the two tests in the bathroom and he got excited He said that he's been thinking the last month or so why are we waiting? .... I balled my eyes out lol. Big shock and just worried about a few of the logistics and realise that I have no idea what to eat and I'm heading on holidays, keeping it a secret and not getting into the drinking side of the festive spirit will be hard (I don't mind the not drinking, just the cover up lol). Need to do some fast reading to build my knowledge on eating out and take away... Heading off for 2 weeks tomorrow.

While it is a big surprise, I'm forever grateful as I know how difficult it can be for some, and was told in 2006 we would have difficulty concieving.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! May you have a happy and healthy 2009 xo

Hi ellee congratulations on your exciting news!!! The covering up is really hard - I tried keeping my pregnancy a secret from my family - but I'm pretty bad at keeping secrets which is why they all know now!!!
    Just remember, don't eat
soft serve ice cream(like from maccas)
    pate
    liver
ready made salads from supermarkets etc
    sushi
    raw fish
things you don't know how they were prepared (including fruit and veg - you don't know if they were washed or not)

Basically eat things you have prepared yourself or things that have been thorouly (SP?) cooked. Fresh is always best.
    Good Luck!

    Hi Ellee05!!
Congrats on your wonderful surprise!! Yes, it will be hard to hide it over the festive season- but you could just say that you are doing a detox, or that you are taking antibiotics for a bladder infection or something!! Or you could do what I did- 'pretend' to sip some wine and then go tip it down the sink- or pass it to your hubby. Once I even accepted a red wine- then went to the kitchen and poured it and exchanged it with cranberry juice- lol!!!

Don't worry about the alcohol and caffeine you have consumed previously. Most of us are in that boat and our babies turn out fine. However, I wouldn't advise drinking caffeinated drinks from now on as they can overstimulate the fetus (ie- cause rapid heart rate), but, more importantly, caffeine is a diuretic and increases fluid loss (urination) and also interfers with the body's ability to absorb nutrients- and you and bub need all the nutrients you can get!! I don't intend to scare you- just something us women need to be aware of.
If you're interested, Francesca Naish's book 'The Natural Way to a Better Pregnancy' is brilliant. It is only $39.95 and available online.

Congrats again to the 2 of you- the best gift you will receive this Christmas, I'm sure!!

    X
