Smile WOW a BFP! Melb (Eastern Subs) OB/GYN anyone??

    HI guys,
Im sure theres probably a more appropriate forum for this but I wasn't sure!

My husband and I tested last night, and yup, we got a (not as dark as the control, buts its definately there!)
Tested again this morning FMU and yup, still a !!
AF is due on saturday or sunday, so Im hoping we make it through the weekend!
Ive booked in to see my GP next wednesday (the soonest I could get), but I just wondered, other than that, is there anything else I need to do right now?

It still feels a little unreal (especially as this was our first month TTC....to all those who are still waiting...I hope it happens soon...please don't hate me for it happening so quickly!)

Just not really sure where to go from here, can't really tell anyone...
Ive got a copy of What to expect when you're expecting...but I don't wanna jinx myself by starting to read it yet!!!

Does anyone in Melbournes Eastern Suburbs know a good Obstetrician? as I don't have one yet!

Thanks for letting me bore you....

Good luck and lots of baby vibes to you all!

    WOW Congratulations!!!! Great news.
My friends and family in Melb have used Lionel Steinberg, Guy Skinner & Dennis Price as OBs and have been v happy with both. They book up v quickly so if you want to go to one of them I'd be on the phone quickly...

Apparently in about 7 months I will be a qualified midwife - yikes!

    Congratulations, Babywrangler!

I use Dennis Price and I also have a few clients that use him, and we all love him!!! He does book out really quickly though! Just a word, his receptionist is quite abrupt, but he is the complete opposite.

Dennis is really really low intervention, one of the best priced obs around, and you are also guaranteed to have Dennis deliver bubs unless he is on holidays, and you would be told this when you ring to book in. we have a thread of all girls that see Dennis called Great Ob.

You can ring and book in without it, which I would strongly advise, but when you go for your first visit you need to take a referral. I would book today if you have decided who you want to go through as they really do book out pretty much by 5 weeks, especially at Cabrini. Dennis has delivered my 3 sons.

I forgot to mention, Dennis is also really supportive of things like Calmbirth Active Birth and Doulas! I have a few Clients that I am a doula for that are seeing him.

If you do ring Dennis' rooms, don't let the receptionist put you off. She gets really busy and then gets quite abrupt.

    Thanks for your speedy replies!

What sort of prices do Obs cost?

Also, what hospitals does Dennis work out of?? (Some only do certain hospitals)

also Do you have to have an obs, or can ultrasounds etc be done at like a dorevich place?

Not trying to get out of having one, just, like I said I just don't know what I'm doing!!!

Babywrangler - Congratulations on the BFP. Hope you have a H&H pregnancy.
Which hospital do you want to go to? Do you really want an OB? Are you expecting to have complications because of prior medical conditions? Have you explored birth centres, shared care or public hospitals? Doulas? Sorry for all the questions - lots to think about. There is lots to learn from the experiences of others on this forum.
Dennis Price certainly has the rep around here. I can tell you a few names of OBs to stay away from!

Ok I will try to answer all of your questions! lol

What sort of prices do Obs cost? OK Dennis is one of the cheapest in Melbourne . He charges, $100 for first consultation, $50 for every visit and a management fee of $1200 after 20 weeks. All of these can be claimed on Medicare, so once you reach your threshold you get 80% of your out of posckets back, ie I got back $48 of every $50 consultation. This just depends purely on your safety net position. His deliver fee is around $1500 but that should be fully covered by your private Health Fund.

Also, what hospitals does Dennis work out of?? (Some only do certain hospitals) Dennis delivers out of Cabrini, Waverley Private and Jessie Mac

also Do you have to have an obs, or can ultrasounds etc be done at like a dorevich place. You have to have an ob if you go to a Private Hospital, otherwise you could go public and then I am pretty sure all of your scans are covered, but you are limited to what staff are on at the time, and if you need an ob, you get the OB that is rostered as well. Your other option is midwifery care in some public hospitals that have midwifery led programs.

    Goodluck with it all!

I don't live in Melbourne and know nothing about OBs but just wanted to pop in and say CONGRATULATIONS!

All the best for a happy and healthy 8/9 months with a beautiful baby at the end!

    Thanks again for the reply.

I haven't called his rooms yet, I will talk it over with DH tonight and see what we come up with.

I think I would prefer an OB that works out of Knox private, South Eastern Private, Monash Private or The Valley Private as they are all closer to me.

    thanks again!

No probs, If you mean Monash Private in Clayton, that is also known as Jessie Mac and Waverley Private is Blackburn Road. I have also heard wonderful things about Peter Tang, and I supported a lady at South Eastern with Dr Lam who was also very good!

    Goodluck hun!

Dennis gets my vote he is the nost incredible supportive person. He listens and he cares, i have had for 2 of my kids and am going back to him for no. 4, that should tell you something.

He is very supportive of what type of birth you want and has such a calming attitude, i cant speak highly enough of him.

You mentioned you want an obs to do the south eastern area, well he does Cabrini - Jessie MAc (monash) and MT waverley

Danielle Wilkins who works out of Jessie Mac at Monash is FANTASTIC - young, vibrant, highly skilled female ob. I highly recommend her.
