    Vaccinations

Just a question about Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination.
I had it at school, yr 8 or something?
Do I need to get tested to see if I'm immune before TTC??
Or do you only need to have it once?
    Did other ppl get tested?

    Thanx

I had a blood test when I was pregnant to see if I was immune, which luckily I still was.. but I believe that if you are not, you cannot have the shot whle you are pregnant. So I guess it would probably be a good idea to have the test before you do get pregnant if you are worried that you are not immune.

Sarajane, i went for a pre ttc check up and had bt to see if i was immune to these things also, you can have another vaccination- even though you may have had it in high school you may need a "top up". Bear in mind that you cannot have this done whilst you are pg and if you do require a shot - you cannot ttc for 3 months.
I hope this helps, good luck!!!!

Oh this has just reminded me.

I fell pregnant with Jesse while on the pill so had no planning. When i did my 8 week blood tests it came up saying i needed a booster.. which i couldnt get until he was born. i had the one at school aswell, but mustnt have taken hold as well as others. My sister was the same.

So its best if youre TTC you do get it checked before hand.. really need to get my booster now!

I'd agree with the others & get a pre TTC checkup, if you have to have a booster you will be told to wit at least 3 months before TTC.

I agree with everyone else. I got tested 3 months before going off bcp.

My sister got tested before TTC her #1 & #2 and all was fine but with #3 she didn't and found out after she was pg that she needed a booster. Her GP told her she needed to keep away from people as much as possible for the first 10 weeks to avoid catching Rubella. So she was pretty much housebound which was a real pain. Rubella can cause deafness, blindness and intellectual disability if you catch it in the first 10 weeks of pg. I think its not something you want to take a chance with.
