Is it possible to ovulate twice in a cycle??

Hi, I wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought here may be appropriate.. A friend of mine has been using OPK's and said she got a positive result around mid cycle then another one just before her period.. I know you can release more than 1 egg sometimes 1 or 2 days apart but I didn't think you could ovulate twice at different times.. Anyone have any experience or know if you can? She is as confused as me..

Yes you can! It is called a lunar ovulation. Basically you can ovulate at the time that the moon is in the same position in the sky as it was at your birth. This ovulation though is usually triggered by sexual activity. It accounts for many women who conceive during their period or right at the end of a period etc etc. I have a very close friend who conceived her first baby like this!

The other thing is your friend could hav had a chemical pregnancy. OPK'S can detect pregnancy often a little earlier than a preg test. There is only a slight difference in the chemical picture of the LH surge and HCG so this is why OPK"s can pick it up.

So that could be another explaination...

Thanks, I will let her know.. Can you elaborate on chemical pg? Is that when the egg is fertilised but cells don't keep dividing?

yeah a chemical pregnancy is where conception occurred but didnt progress and usually results in a slightly later and sometimes heavier AF.

check out pee on a stick com this chick has got great images and info on OPKs as HPT etc and can provide good info on what it all means.

Blessed a chemical pregnancy is a confirmed pregnancy that is lost very early usually before 6 weeks. It is when the pregnancy has been chemically confirmed (preg test/serum or urine) but the pregnancy is lost soon after.

If her period was late I would say it was an early loss ant that is why the OPK was positive. It turned positive becuase of HCG not LH...
