    +ve HPT's but -ve BT

    Hi there,

I have been reading this site for a while, but this is the first time I have posted, sorry if it's a bit long.

I need to ask if anyone out there has actually been pregnant after they got a negative blood test result?

I have done at least 10 HPT's (yes I am a junkie) they all came up positive. All within the time frame and using at least three different brands (Including Lullaby) I got my first positive one week before AF was due, and am still getting them now. They range in darkness but can be seen when held at arms length. I had to go to the doctor for another reason and as I was one day late for AF, I showed him the tests and he agreed I was pregnant. He didn't bother with a urine test in his office, but I asked that he send me for a blood test (hubby likes to make sure). We got the results back today...Negative. I couldn't believe it....the doctor couldn't believe it...but there you have it.

This would be my second child, my son is 9 months old. I have noticed other signs that I got in my first pregnancy...so tired, breasts got a lot bigger, odd urges for different foods than I would normally eat.

So now AF is 3 days late......I still feel pregnant.....maybe I could be?
Does anyone know if a bloodtest can be wrong? It was one of those ones that look for any hormone at all...not one that must be a certain level. Apparantly there was nothing there. Can you be pregnant without that hormone showing up? I did not have this problem with my first pregnancy. Doc said that if AF does not show soon to come back and we will test again.

    Thanks,
    (Confused and sad)Citygal

    Hi Citygal
i had the same thing happen last month but i used a brand that was very unreliable (didnt know that b4 i tested)
Not sure whats happening with you but i do have a gf who got a -tive bt and was pg. Apparently is came back with a lower hcg level than was required for a +tive, but she was actually pg - has a dd to prove that. Was your test qualitive or quantative? because they are different. One mearsures the exact amount of hcg and the other just measures a certain amount, so if the level is set at 10 - anything under that will measure -tive and anything over will be +tive.

I would go and have another blood test, its not going to hurt to put your mind at ease.

Id go back for another bt. there is no way that that many HPTs can be wrong!? But then again bts are the supposed to be the most reliable. Good luck.

    Hi there,

    Still no AF...fingers crossed!
MrsB26 the BT was one of those that looks for any amount, not a certain level is what the doctor told me. I am hopeful after hearing about your friend that got a -ve BT and was still preggers
I am planning to go back for another blood test on Tuesday if AF hasn't arrived by then..that would then make AF one week late. Will probably do another urine test soon

    Hi there,

    AF arrived today.
Guessing it must of been a chemical pregnancy as AF is 6 days late.
    Oh well...maybe next time

Sorry to hear that AF arrived. Fingers crossed for you for next time.

Just also wanted to let you know that I had the same thing happen, I had tested positive on HPTs and had a blood test which came back negative. When AF hadn't arrived a week later they tested me again which came back positive. So it does happen -just wanted to let you know.
