    Can illness affect ovulation??

I have a pretty bad cold & have had it for around 5-6 days now. I'm on CD18 & I normally ovulate around CD16-18 with EWCM for a few days beforehand. So far I've had nothing at all. Does anyone know if me being sick would have caused it? Will I ovulate late or just not at all? How would I know when AF is due if I don't ovulate?

Typical, my last cycle before my down reg cycle for IVF & this happens

I've no idea for sure either way... but have you been taking any decongestants or things like that? It's possible that they would dry up the mucus so you have less...

    Sarah,

I'm not too sure but my thoughts are as follows.....

I agree with BW that decongestants could dry up cm. You could also get this from being dehydrated if you're sick (ie. from fevers, runny nose etc). So that could explain a lack of ewcm. Sure illness can definitely affect O. I would expect your body would O when the illness/stress is gone so that would mean a late O. If you don't O then I'm not sure what the go with AF is.... I have super irregular cycles so often I have to wait 6 weeks to O but I know I won't get AF until that happens. If you don't O this cycle then maybe you'll just skip the AF too and won't get AF until after you next O. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Get well soon

Illness will certainly delay ovulation in some women Sarah - as will a big stress, an airplane flight etc. I agree with the others - don't take a decongestant as this will alter your cm - as mild as it seems try to drink honey and lemon drinks instead...

Are you using opk's or just cm observation?

Bugger hadn't even though about OPKs while I've been sick.

All I've been taking is Clarynase which is a hayfever relief thing, it's 95% pseudoephedrine...

Sarah - don't despair - you will have some cm there my love it's okay. JUst don't take any more meds if you can help it and dtd if you can... It's terrible timing isn't it?

I think I Oed yesterday!! So yep, just delayed by about 4-5 days. Puts everything back for IVF, but I'd prefer a better result from this cycle than worry about that

    Hi Sarah,

I'm a bit late but thought i'd tell you how dd came to be here.

CD9 i got EWCM - bit early but my cycles had been off since Mum died 5 months previous, due, i imagine, to the stress. So, EWCM on CD9, 10, 11, then nothing. So, i was using Billings to chart (were were not ttc) i gave it 4 clear days and we DTD on CD16 and CD17. Now on CD11 i'd been a bit snuffly - nothing to write home about, just a mild sinus infection. I thought nothing of it and i didn't take medication. Well, i got PG, so just that mild sinus infection must have been enough to delay my O for a week! My CM never came back either - the first clue i had that i'd O'd so late was my BFP. I'd used Billings for 3 years with success, so i don't think i made an obvious error.

So it can happen! Good good good luck! It would be so great if you caught this eggie
