Elevit or Blackmores Conceive Well Gold?

    Hello ladies,

I am wanting to start taking prenatal vitamins, but have heard and read from some people and that their doctors recommended Elevit while others recommended Blackmores Conceive Well Gold.

What did you take or can you recommend I take?

My girlfriend and my cousin took Elevit, but both said at different times that it made them nauseas so I was wondering whether this was a common side effect?

I'm not seeing my OB until September so was wanting to start taking some now, rather than wait and asking him in September.

    Thanks heaps

    Hey!

Elevit is the one recommended by my fertility specialists. It has more than enough of what we need in there.
The trick is to take them with your breakfast (or with any other food). They do make you feel nauseous if you take them on an empty stomach, but so do the Blackmores ones. I've had them both.

Get your boy to take Menevit too! It's the male equivalent and is also recommended by my FS!

    Good luck

It's my understanding that Elevit has the ideal amount of folic acid while Blackmore's is lower (but still really fine). However, Blackmore's has iodine and Elevit does not and iodine is important.

if you take elevit you need to take an omega 3 as well, but the blackmores has that already in it. you need that to absorb one of the ingredients properly.
i took blackmores for a couple of months and i didn't have a problem with it. no nausea or any side effects.

I found elevit & blackmores both didn't agree with me. I now take FeFol Pregnancy supplement + spatone iron supplement.

    animal by-products Elevit not labelled

Can anyone confirm whether there are indeed beef or pork by-products in Elevit? I have been taking elevit and when I searched the product online some reviewers said there were animal by-products in it.

I take Elevit for the simple reason that it's only 1 tablet LOL. No fancy reasons here.

It's only folate that is the important thing to take pre-conception, so you could even just take a plain folate supplement. The rest is just a multi that can help with general wellbeing. A normal healthy diet is usually sufficient for getting all the other bits & pieces.

I don't know anything about animal by-products in it, sorry Robin.

Thanks, yes, the appeal of just a single pill is why I have been taking it, but I'm vegetarian. I am going to ring Bayer and find out.

When I compared the contents of the Elevit and Blackmores, Elevit had a larger dose of most of the vitamins and minerals. The only thing I remember Blackmores having that Elevit didn't was iodine. But this was almost 3 years ago now so there's always a chance it could have changed since then. It's easy enough to compare their contents if you've got the two packets side by side in the pharmacy.

For what it's worth, my fertility clinic recommends and sells Elevit (and Menevit).

    Hi
While TTC and pregnant with DD I took Blackmores Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Gold. I never had any trouble taking them. I will be TTC again in Nov and have started taking these again. Are these the same as the Blackmores conceive well vitamins? Should i be taking those instead?

    Lenny,

I have now taken Blackmores Conceive Well Gold since July and have had no side effects or problems with it, so you should be ok.

I don't think it will delay your period either, however if you do notice any changes to your cycle or experience symptoms you normally don't since starting BCWG, I would recommend you talk with your doctor just to make sure.

All the best in your TTC journey!

I took the Blackmores and didn't have any nausea, mind you I've always taken a multi vitamin and always made sure I have them with a meal.
