first time mums in SE QLD Australia

    Hi,
I'm from Griffith University researching the experience of your first pregnancy. We are interested in the effects of stress and coping during pregnancy - (you don't have to stressed to participate~!) This is one of the first studies to look a these areas so we can improve lives for mum and children in Australia. When you participate you go into the draw to win some gifts for your child. You have to be in weeks 7-13 of your pregnancy to participate because we take saliva samples in each trimester. We take saliva samples 3 times in the first year we do an observation assessment.
If you know anyone you might be interested, let me know!
    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Just wondering what sort of information saliva gives you?

I think I'd be interested, but I'd need more info.

    Thanks!

    Hi Miss Maree,

Congratulations and thanks for your interest. You must be excited as I see you are in your 7th week. I am very happy for you!

The purpose of the study is to better understand stress and coping from the perspective of first time mum. We do this through getting you to collect a saliva sample to get a measurement of the stress hormone called cortisol. We do this in the first, second and third trimester (7-12 weeks, 20 weeks and 32 weeks) then another during the baby's inoculations and finally an observation assessment around the baby's first birthday at the Psychology Clinic at Griffith University.

We also ask you to complete some brief questionnaire about coping and how you are experiencing your pregnancy. It's a really important study because it's the first time a study of this nature has been conducted in Australia. We think that first time mums are a really special group! Do you think this is something you may be interested in finding out more about?

    Hope this helps

    Vanessa

Yes, I'd definitely be interested! If you give me an email address or phone number I will contact you. I don't think you can Private Message me as you're not yet a BB member, so if it's ok with you just post it in this thread.

    Thanks!
